How it all began
Up until eight years ago, it felt like everyone could just eat their KitKats in peace.
Then came Kourtney Kardashian’s infamous KitKat video.
In the video, posted to YouTube back in 2016, Kourtney took almost five million viewers through her six-step process of eating a KitKat, which included eating the chocolate off the ends and sides of each bar before separating the top and bottom wafers and eating them separately. No one has time for that, right?
Since then, the internet has been amass with videos of people showcasing their own techniques, including Michael Finch’s ‘Burrito Style’ video and Michael Drake’s post on the ‘KitKat-Ketchup’ method.
But, finally, we have the answer.

The 'correct' way is...
The team at KitKat has officially announced the ‘correct’ way to enjoy its 4-finger bars – the ‘Break, Snap and Enjoy’ method – break off each finger, snap it in half and savour the wafery-chocolatey goodness.
“After years of fun and friendly debate, we felt it was time to finally share the truth with the nation and announce how a KitKat is meant to be enjoyed. It seems however, that debate will always rage on the best way to enjoy your KitKat!” Nestlé Confectionery Marketing Manager Shannon Wright said.
“Ultimately, whether you bite, break, or even get out a knife and fork – what really matters is that everyone takes a break and enjoys a moment for themselves.”
It seems the debate will well and truly continue, with recent polls saying that 41% of Aussies disagree with the ‘official’ method.
A passionate 59% also said that they would get ‘the ick’ if someone ate KitKat in a different way to them.
And, as a long-term fan of the original method, I think that’s fair enough if they’re doing the ketchup thing, right? RIGHT?
