With the cost of living on the rise, one place many have always been able to count on for a cheap feed is McDonald’s.
But, one Melbourne resident has taken to Facebook to share their confusing experience with the chain which resulted in them paying more than double the normal price of a soft serve, and everyone’s weighing in.

“A very disappointing experience”
“[Sharing] a very disappointing experience with McDonald’s today,” the post began, shared anonymously to a community noticeboard group.
“We saw a $1.10 soft serve cone in McDonald’s app and thought it might be for a larger size. We bought and got a same 50 cents ice cream! I asked the staff how much it is and got told 50 cents, so where did the extra 60 cents paid to! They could not answer either!”
Thankfully, the poster said that the issue was quickly resolved.
“Finally we got 60 cents back but thought it was tricky and no one should pay for extra 60 cents for Nothing!” it said.
“This is not to blame this shop but McDonald’s as a whole!”

“Screw them. Get the refund.”
Many commenters were on the side of the poster, expressing confusion around the situation, and happiness that they chose to address it and get a refund.
“If they did this to 1000 people a day, that’s 219k per year. McDonald’s has 2 million customers a day in Australia alone.Taking a single cent from everyone everyday is 20k,” one comment said.
“No one would complain about a cent. But I’d like 20k per day with no hesitation too please. Screw them. Get the refund.”
“I think the issue is not just her .60c but when multiplied by everyone who has ordered it. Free money for Maccas. AND I would ask for my .60c back as it’s my money not theirs,” another agreed.
Others came to the table with their own stories, pointing out errors with multiple items showing as two different prices on the MyMacca’s app.
“You’d think they’d have corrected it. But nope they’re catching a lot of ppl out with it,” one comment said.
“Definitely not a system error. This is how the soft serves are shown in their app. And it’s been like this for weeks now,” another agreed.
“I seen this on that app the other day as well same thing but one was 60 cents one was $1.10 like wtf why ?” a third said.
But, just as many brushed off the issue, saying that it’s not that big of a deal.
“I wouldn't bother complaining because an ice-cream like that would cost $4 or more anywhere else. Just saying!” one said.
“I wish this was the most stressful thing I had to worry about in my life,” another teased.
"At Macca’s, we’re committed to giving our customers great value every day, especially in the current environment. We’re trialling a new value promotion in our Victorian restaurants, which includes our fan favourite Soft Serve Cone for just 50 cents (usually $1.10) between 10:30 am – midnight," McDonald's said in a statement to Kidspot.
"We are sorry to hear of the confusion and inconvenience experienced by this customer. We do hope that they and all of our Soft Serve fans in Victoria will visit us soon."
