Port Adelaide fan favourite Hamish Hartlett is still on cloud nine after he tied the knot with gorgeous partner Luba Gvozdenovic in what the couple called the “best day of their lives”.
The former vice-captain married his partner of five years in McLaren Vale on Saturday in a gorgeous summer wedding jam packed with two ceremonies, multiple musical performances and cheeseburger deliveries.
Surrounded by family and close friends Hartlett and Ms Gvozdenovic first said their “I dos” at St Sava Serbian Orthodox Church at Woodville South at 1pm.
“It was in respect of tradition,” Ms Gvozdenovic, who was dressed in a Pallas Couture wedding gown on the day, told The Advertiser.
“When the crowns came out … a lot of the boys couldn’t contain their laughter. It was really fun for everyone to see … it was totally different from what they’d seen before.”
The traditional ceremony lasted 45 minutes before the couple was swept away for photographs before their second ceremony at Simon Hackett Winery at McLaren Vale.
The sun was shining bright when the couple, who met on dating app Bumble, said their vows for a second time surrounded by 140 guests including Sam Powell-Pepper, Brya Waghorn and Olivia May.
“The tears were flowing and the sweat was flowing out of the pores at the same time,” Hartlett said.
“I was very grateful to be surrounded by all of our very close friends and family, very, very special.
“We’ve been so happy and ecstatic with the whole way it turned out.”
The couple said they are still on “cloud nine” after their fairytale wedding which saw an 80s band play as well as Hartlett’s sister Annabel Hartlett, also known as music producer and DJ Godlands.
To cap off the best day of their lives Hartlett and Ms Gvozdenovic returned to their Airbnb accommodation to a delivery of cheeseburgers.
Now the couple is getting ready to jet-set to Thailand where they will spend a week travelling through Phuket and the Phi Phi islands.
“Luba has been there a couple of times and really, really loves it, first time for me so I can’t wait, can’t wait to get over there and immerse ourselves in the culture,” Hartlett said.
Hartlett proposed to Ms Gvozdenovic on his birthday – August 14 – in 2022 while the couple was taking their dog for a walk at Brownhill Creek.
“Luba actually made a comment about a week prior that it was her favourite place to go in Adelaide,” Hartlett said.
Hartlett’s sister Annabel had recently returned from a trip to America where she bought a new camera.
The siblings devised a plan to secretly film the proposed which Luba said she was “no clue” was going to happen.
“I’d sort of been hinting that there was going to be a 10 year apprenticeship … before a marriage,” he said.
“I sort of threw her off the scent a little bit.”
Hartlett, a number 4 2008 AFL Draft pick, played 193 games over an impressive 13-year career at Alberton and is now a senior coach for Port Adelaide’s SANFL side.
