The bride and groom tried to charge us nearly $4K to attend their wedding

"The entitlement is overflowing here... every guest is an absolute sucker for going along with this scheme!" one person commented.

Have you ever considered asking your loved ones to pitch in for your wedding?

Well, a daring UK couple did just that, and the results were nothing short of jaw-dropping.

In a world where costs seem to soar the moment you utter the word 'wedding,' this couple decided to take a different route.

Instead of cutting corners on the venue or photographer, they tossed tradition out the window and turned to their guests for financial support.

The catch? They asked each guest to contribute a substantial £2,000 (AUD $3,806) - and this didn't even cover the drinks!

One guest shared his bewildering experience on Reddit and said he received an email prior to the wedding with a link that read, "Click here for payment."

Assuming it was a honeymoon fund, he clicked the link, only to discover the couple's audacious request for nearly £2,000.

An additional fee for beverages!?

While some might have quickly exited, he humoured the situation and coughed up the cash. His plan? Make the most of the free bar and indulge in the wedding feast to recoup some of his investment.

However, his cunning strategy took an unexpected turn when he arrived at the wedding, only to learn that drinks weren't included. He had to fork out an additional £30 (AUD $57) on beverages.

In the aftermath, he calculated the venue's cost, which had been evenly distributed among the guests—except for the bride and groom, who essentially enjoyed a free wedding courtesy of their friends and family.

The entitlement is overflowing!

Unsurprisingly, fellow Reddit users were not amused by this 'entitled' couple. One commenter suggested, "I'd reach out to the bride and groom for a refund."

Another boldly stated, "I'm sorry (not sorry), but I would never pay to attend a wedding, let alone pay £2000. The entitlement is overflowing here!"

A third user said, "Your friend and every other guest were absolute suckers for going along with this scheme."

"It's just tacky"

Another user focused on the detail of not even supplying beverages to their generous friends, writing: "I don't have anything against dry weddings but surely you can offer something other than just water."

And one Reddit member concluded, "As soon as I saw that payment screen, I'd have cancelled my RSVP. Regardless of the bride and groom's relationship, if you want a particular type of wedding, foot the bill yourself. Their approach was simply tacky."

Weddings come in all shapes and sizes, but this one certainly left a lasting (and expensive) impression on its guests!
