The Aussie reason this bride can't choose her dream wedding song

The bride-to-be has chosen a song she loves to walk down the aisle to. But, there's one glaring issue only Aussies will understand.

Is it romantic… or just reminding everyone of an airline ad?

Choosing songs for your wedding is one of the most meaningful steps in a whirlwind planning process. But, it can also be one of the most difficult decisions you have to make.

One Aussie bride is going through just that, but has taken to TikTok sharing the oddly specific reason she’s hesitating to choose her favourite song. However, it’s a reason fellow Aussies know all too well.

“I can’t get that out of my head”

Aussie bride-to-be Sarah Durante has taken to TikTok for help after feeling divided over her wedding song.

“I’m getting married in three months,” she said in the video.

“I know I need to pick my wedding aisle song. Like any good bride to be, I’ve been looking on TikTok, and one that keeps coming up is ‘It Feels Like Home’.”

‘Feels Like Home’, originally sung by Bonnie Raitt in the early ‘90s, has been performed and released by many other artists over the years, though the most successful was sung by Chantal Kreviazuk in 1999.

The song itself experienced mild success at the time, though most Aussies know it for one common reason.

“I love that song, but the Australians will understand this, ‘It Feels Like Home’ is the Qantas ad song,” she said.

“It’s always emotional, the family member lives in a foreign country, and they come home on a Qantas flight and surprise their family.

“I can’t get that out of my head.”

So, she asked TikTok for advice.

“Can somebody please tell me if I’m crazy to pick that song as an Aussie living in America, or if that’s actually the perfect song to pick to walk down the aisle to?” she asked.

“I don’t associate it with the airline!”

Many commenters from the post said that despite its use in Qantas marketing campaigns since back in 2014, they didn’t connect the song to the airline whatsoever.

“Nah, the Qantas song is def ‘I Still Call Australia Home’. I don’t remotely associate ‘it Feels Like Home’ with the airline,” one commenter said.

“I think of ‘I Still Call Australia Home’ for the Qantas ad if that helps. I didn’t even realise that the other song was also a Qantas song,” another agreed.

Others said they connected the song with other things.

“Nooo I was choosing ‘Feels Like Home’ by Chantal Kreviazuk from ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’…” said one fellow bride.

“Australian here, more so reminds me of ‘How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days’!” another agreed.

“Reminds me of ‘My Sister's Keeper’ and I just can’t do it” said a third.

“That song is from ‘Dawson’s Creek’ for me… as an Aussie I don’t think of Qantas at all. It’s a gorgeous song regardless,” another person said.

“Perfect song!”

But, regardless, the overall message was clear - use it!

“Perfect song! It’s a beautiful meaning, if it means something for you and your partner then do it. Every song has been used somewhere, if we all lingered on how it’s used we’d lose so many nice songs! Go with your gut and if you think you’ll regret it. don’t do it, but it’s a beautiful song,” said one commenter.

“As an American I think this is adorable and means something,” another agreed.

Speaking with Kidspot, Sarah said she loved seeing all the comments on her video, which only encouraged her to use the song she feels so connected to.

"I think the comments are funny, it’s a very relatable song to my situation as an Aussie living in America and it definitely ignites an emotion of missing home but finding a new one!" she said.
