'Sacrilegious!': Detail on Coles steak has the internet in hysterics

"If you do what it tells you to on the packaging, you deserve to be vegan," one person bantered on the now-viral photo. Can you spot it?

Curtis Stone's tips for cooking on the barbecue

A seemingly innocuous photo of a Coles steak has gone viral online and left the internet in stitches.

Covered in plastic packaging, the eye fillet carried an easily overlooked message in tiny writing.

Once people saw it, their comments and reactions were equally as hilarious as the message itself...

The tiny writing carries an important message for steak eaters

Posting to the Australian Low and Slow BBQ'ers Facebook group, Darren Hales shared a photo of the Coles Finest Australian Premium Beef Eye Fillet, which comes in security-protected packaging due to its $23 price tag.

On the packaging, there's a warning that reads, "Please remove all packaging before microwaving."

Yes, you read that right.

BEFORE MICROWAVING.

It seems like everyone quickly picked up on this and collectively asked: "WTF?" or rather, "Who the heck microwaves a steak?!"

"I guess they have to cover all bases"

Most people took issue with the sacrilege that would be microwaving a steak, especially such a good quality steak.

"If you microwave that, you deserve to be vegan," one person bantered.

Another added, "Whoever is microwaving a steak needs to have their steak purchasing rights revoked."

"What Philistine microwaves an eye fillet steak," chimed in a third.

"I guess they have to cover all bases for stupid people," claimed a fourth.

Then Darryn posted in the comments, joking that he followed the directions and microwaved his steak (sans packaging, of course). "Wish me luck!" he said, alongside this rather grim photo.

Potential reasons for the message - not as stupid as it sounds

However, others pointed out potentially valid reasons for the message.

"I freeze steak fairly regularly and microwave to defrost then cook on a BBQ.

"Is that not something anyone else does?" wrote one person.

Then someone else agreed, saying, "Yeah, some people defrost their meat in the microwave. The security seal has metal in it, so will spark in the microwave."

There was also another issue on the packet that people noticed...

Meanwhile, other commenters thought the issue with the photo was the fact that the plastic packaging says, 'Certified Carbon Neutral'.

"The irony is that it's apparently carbon neutral, but wrapped in plastic..." one person pointed out.

Then another group member said, "Carbon neutral?! Must have been delivered on horseback."

But another member quickly assured these people, "Carbon neutral means the company either has an environmental project that offsets the carbon they produce (generating carbon credits) or they purchase carbon credits from someone else."

Finally, one commenter pointed out even more issues they saw in the photo.

They said: "Jesus Christ. How much more can be wrong with this photo? 1) Coles claiming they have fine/premium steak. 2) They seriously need to put a security tag on a piece of steak?
