Prices revealed: Showgoers rate the food at the 2023 Royal Adelaide Show

Paying top dollar for the smorgasbord of fast food on offer is an expected part of a day out at the Royal Adelaide Show.
This year a turkey leg will set you back $18, a small pizza $20, seasoned fries $12 and fairy floss $8.
A snapshot of food prices on day two of the 2023 event show some have remained the same as 2022 pricing including classic show fare like fairy floss and dagwood dogs.
But the cost of potato based staples were on the rise including chips on a stick and fries which have increased by $1 and $2 respectively.

Firle’s Trevor Song and his family packed a picnic lunch for their Father’s Day out at the show.
He said both rising cost of living and a lack of healthy food had influenced the decision.
“We packed food in case we couldn’t find any healthy options for the kids,” Mr Song said.
“It’s hard to find healthy food for my kids sometimes.”
“We’re even planning to bring our own food again tomorrow.”

Flurrito
Location: Fluffy Crunch, Goyder Pavilion
Price: $15

It’s the newest Show trend and the “flurrito” – a fairy floss burrito made up of strawberry fairy floss and jam-packed with vanilla ice-cream, sprinkles and fruit loops – got a raving review from Sebastian Baldock.
The 11 year old said he loved the sugary hit because it’s “nice and very sweet” and he would line up to eat it again next year.
“It has so many things in it. I loved it because it had lollies and ice cream,” Sebastian said.
“It’s melting in my mouth.”
The Novar Gardens boy even offered to share a bite with his dad as a Father’s Day gift.

Turkey leg
Location: Bodean’z BBQ Grill across the Boulevard Stage
Price: $18

Before taking a spin on the ferris wheel, Rolando Alfaro decided to get his hands on a turkey leg before the long queue got any longer.
The Pennington man, who has been attending the show for more than 30 years with his family, enjoyed the feed.
“I like its texture, and the sauce is just amazing,” he said.
After paying $300 for entry tickets Mr Alfaro said he had found the show more expensive than the previous year.
“The price changes, but the enjoyment never changes,” he said.

Foot-long dagwood dog
Location: Good Food Fast, outside the Jubilee Pavilion

Emily Lock had been craving a dagwood dog for a whole year when she and her family tucked into their favourite show treat.
“It’s just part of the show. We don’t have it other than the show,” she said.
Each year the Happy Valley woman likes to experiment with a new sauces and on Sunday she chose the extra garlic sauce.
After a bite, she said the taste was exactly like the previous year, “just too much garlic”.
“I cannot get enough of this, it is so good.”
Ava, 9, said she liked the taste and trying the different dagwood dog flavours.

Oysters
Location: Dolly, Goyder Pavilion
Price: $20 for half a dozen
Reviewer: Louise Peny, 55, Freeling
Oysters may not be the first thing that comes to mind when deciding what to eat the show.
But for Louise Peny, who happily taste tested both the natural and mignonette styles, they were a “delicious” choice.
“The size is pretty nice for the price,” she said.
“I did not try it last year, if I knew it was here, I would have tried it last year.”
After slurping one down, the Freeling woman said, “it’s so fresh, I have to eat one more”.

Chips on a stick
Location: Chips on a Stick, across Boulevard Stage
Price: $9

A day at the show is not complete without chips on a stick if you ask Brett Fridday.
The Elizabeth man has been attending the show for six years and said he did not mind paying
extra for the experience.
“I love coming back here. I always get chips on stick, every year. It’s always the same,” Mr Fridday said.
“My visit to the show is incomplete without chips on stick in my hand.
“The taste is actually really nice, as always.”

Pepperoni pizza
Location: Pizza Co, Gourmet Food Court
Price: $20

Charlotte Newton enjoyed the taste of her pepperoni pizza but felt it was overpriced.
“I think for the price, it was a bit disappointing. I expected better,” she said.
“It was less spicy and salty for my taste.”
Despite what it lacked in taste, the Glenelg woman was impressed with the customer service.
“I literally ordered it, they gave me a ticket, I got my pizza in five minutes,” she said.

Chicken souvlaki
Location: Souvlaki, outside Jubilee Pavilion
Price: $20
Reviewer: Robert Cricelli, 40, One Tree Hill
Robert Cricelli was at the show gates the moment they opened as a Father’s Day gift.
When he took his first bite of his chicken souvlaki, he said, “it tastes surprisingly good, especially with lettuce, tomato and extra garlic sauce”.
The One Tree Hill man said the meat was “soft and tender, and definitely not chewy”.
“I think it's a bit pricey, it should be around $15, but it’s okay; it tastes good.”
