The app to help you dob in dodgy parking

Fed up with dodgy parking jobs, residents of the suburb of Tapping have become vigilante parking officers, dobbing in their neighbours for parking illegally via an app.

The 'Snap Send and Solve' app lets them take matters into their own hands, snapping incriminating photos of cars parked illegally and sending them straight to the council.

The council can then choose to issue a fine to the owner of the offending vehicle.

Local Kevin West told 9News that cars that are parked on footpaths are a nightmare for residents.

"You've got to walk around. You've either got to squeeze past on the left-hand side of the vehicle or, alternatively, you've physically got to go into the traffic," he said.

"Just do the right thing."

There have now been around 6,000 reports of illegal parking in Perth using the Snap Send and Solve app this year, a 61 percent increase from 2023.

It doesn't stop there... you can report much more

According to the app's website, the tool can be used for various purposes, from filling potholes to encouraging better parking.

The company also encouraged people to use it to report vandalism and graffiti, trip hazards, overgrown vegetation, abandoned trolleys, neglected e-scooters and e-bikes and dumped rubbish.

And yes, you can also use it to dob in your noisy neighbour and loud dogs.

So, how does it work?

Basically, you spot an issue and send a 'Snap' to the app. Then, they'll notify the responsible 'Solver' who will get to work fixing the issue.

'Solvers' can be anything from local councils and power companies to water authorities and road management bodies.

The app boasts a "90%+ Solve rate," so you can rest assured that your issue will probably be resolved. But just be prepared — you might get addicted to snapping photos and become the new neighbourhood hero (or villain, depending on how you use it!).
