A pink wedding dress by Adelaide fashion house couture+love+madness has divided the internet after going viral on social media.
Sydney-based merchandise planner Camille Lescai shared a video of her “dress reveal” on TikTok, showing her bridesmaids the custom gown for the first time on the morning of her wedding.
Turning tradition on its head, Ms Lescai’s peach “Rose” dress featured hundreds of organza laser-cut petals.
“Absolutely no one saw the dress until the day of,” she wrote.
While the bridesmaids’ reactions were of excitement and joy, the response to the video – which has amassed 4.5 million views – was divided, with some describing the dress as “ugly”.
Ms Lescai, 31, later hit back at her detractors, posting a response video titled, “Reading out the mean things on the internet that people wrote about my wedding dress’.
“Mary wrote a very big, ‘No’, to which I replied, ‘I’ll put that down as your RSVP shall I?’,” Ms Lescai said in the video.
“Sorry for ‘trying too hard’ on my wedding day.”
Adelaide designer Cristina Tridente said the haters of the viral dress could “get in the bin”, with her gowns designed to be “something unique with personality”.
With a similar design available in lilac, Ms Tridente the couture+love+madness gowns were for brides seeking something different for their big day.
“It’s for the alternative bride,” she said.
“Someone who wants something fun and colourful who is not afraid to stand out.
“It has a nice cinched-in waist, with tulle and a 1950s silhouette – plus a split in the skirt to give it a modern twist.”
The viral TikTok isn’t Ms Tridente’s most recent brush with social media fame – the local designer also made an appearance on British singer Sam Smith’s Instagram page while they were in SA for an exclusive concert.
Ms Tridente, who created a custom cape for Smith to wear as the Gloria tour kicks off later this year, ran into the star in a Macca’s car park after their gig at the d’Arenberg Cube.
