A dress made entirely of pasta has been unveiled as part of the upcoming Adelaide Italian Festival.
Leading SA designer Cristina Tridente created the unique take on couture using hundreds of pieces of San Remo’s wagon wheel and macaroni pasta shapes.
Ms Tridente said the special project, which took a couple of months to complete, was inspired by the “spaghetti strap” that came to prominence in the 1920s and embraced female sexiness.
“When I came up with (the idea) I remember pitching it and I said, ‘It’s a bit crazy but I think it will work’,” the couture+love+madness founder said.
“This is actually a pattern that I learned when I was eight years old and I’ve just redeveloped it with the pasta into making a dress.”
The dress was launched at Burnside Village and will be on display until the end of the Italian Festival on November 20.
The much-loved, ten-day event, once known as Carnevale and first held in 1976, will kick off on November 11, and will showcase the best in Italian food, wine, culture and tradition at celebrations across the city.
The festival features almost 60 family-friendly events including cooking classes, workshops, car shows, dinners, masterclasses and exhibitions.
Festival chairman Ben Rillo said this year’s program is “bigger and better than ever before”.
“We are delighted to showcase our fabulous culture once again to the wider community and promote what being Italian is all about,” he said.
