IT’S just as well Rosie is good at giving high fives because she’s just earned herself a big one.
The black and white border collie has been named the winner in The Advertiser’s SA’s Cutest Dogs competition, which saw more than 500 readers from across the state send in photos of their precious pooches.
The huge pool of submissions was whittled down to a Top 50 then put to a public vote, with Rosie the clear winner.
Owner Wayne Russell, of Golden Grove, said it was “fantastic” the voting public was clearly as smitten with Rosie as his family was.
“A lot of people comment on her and say how beautiful she is, and, like, just a pure Border Collie; she’s got that look about her,” Mr Russell says.
“Believe or not mate, I only put her in there so my eight year old daughter (Madison, 8) could see her on the Internet,” he says.
He says he also managed to capture Rosie on camera at a particularly adorable moment.

“I was going to take a photo of her, and she was thinking she was going to get a treat, because she normally does a high five for a treat. And I just captured it at the exact right time.”
Mr Russell says he bought Rosie from Wilderblu Border Collies, in Lameroo, two-and-a-half years ago and she quickly became part of the family.
“She does like the high five, the shake hands, lays down, all the sort of stuff,” Mr Russell says. “But she’s just really a people dog,” he says.
“If we’re in the lounge room, she’s in the lounge room.
“If we’re in the bedroom, she’s in the bedroom and as soon as my daughter gets home from school, you know if Madi lays down on the ground, Rosie’s on top of her giving her cuddles and kisses. That’s how they great each other.”
Madison says she loves having a pet like Rosie because “she always likes to play with me”.
