A rescue kitten at the Animal Welfare League of South Australia has sent the internet into meltdown thanks to a “clever name” and comparison to a famous face.
Buscemi was promoted as being available for adoption on the charity’s social media page this week.
The post exploded with interest in the kitten – with users quick to pick up the reference to US actor Steve Buscemi.
“Someone at the AWL understood the brief,” one user wrote.
“Love this. I hope this clever name helps this cutie find a home.”
“Whoever named this kitty, you deserve a gold star,” said another.
But some voiced concern for the kitten’s unusual features.
“But seriously, is this kitty OK??” one person asked.
Commenting from their official page, the AWL quickly assured Buscemi is “fine”.
“He just has big eyes.”
And the whisker-smart name has already paid off – Buscemi has since been adopted, according to an AWL spokesperson.
Buscemi isn’t the only interesting moniker used by the AWL shelter staff, who clearly love a pun.
Other cats currently available for adoption include Meowdy There Partner, Kate Hudson, Soup Spoon and Florence and the Meowchine.
An AWL spokesperson told The Advertiser the organisation was “always looking for people to adopt” a pet.
“It is kitten season and we are full to the brim,” they said.
