The votes are in in The Advertiser’s Cutest and Quirkiest Pet we can now reveal Kevin Bacon the miniature pig is this year’s top hog.
Dozens of pet owners entered their extraordinary animal companions, showing off their cute faces and quirky personalities but it was Kevin who stole the public’s heart.
Other notable finalists included Henry the alpaca with his friendly personality and penchant for playing dead, Nigel the cockatoo who suffers from a beak and feather disease, Butters the lamb who loves lazing on the couch and Trev the bunny whose personality is twice his size.
But Kevin the pig, local resident of Bukirk Glamping site in Clare came out on top which his owner Alison Meaney attributed to his charismatic and cheeky personality.
Ms Meaney said that “Kevi’s got everybody wrapped around his trotter.”
Kevin’s owner and visiting glampers have noticed Kevins unique ability to communicate, recognising his name and making a range of different noises to reflect his feelings.
It was these human-like qualities which made Kevin part of the family, granting him access to treats like veggies, fruits, and even beers.
Ms Meaney saw that Kevin was once feeling peckish and she thought she would pour some nearby beer into his mouth.
“I tipped a little bit in his mouth to see if he would drink out of the bottle and he actually did! And then he started licking his lips as if to ‘that’s delicious’”.
“So every now and again if my partner is having a beer out of the can, Kevi holds his mouth open so he can drink it too.”
Kevin also has a skill for winning himself little treats as his personality inspires glampers to go out and buy him a bag of carrots or apples.
And if Kevin hasn’t received a snack in a while then he has been known to run over to the neighbours property and knock over the biscuit bin or visit the other neighbour to pick the grapes off their vineyard.
But the neighbours love him too, “they know he’s friendly and harmless.”
