The RSPCA is searching for two rogue peacocks that left a path of destruction in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.
Earlier this month, workers at a business in Elizabeth made a distress call to the RSPCA after discovering three stray peacocks wreaking havoc in the company carpark.
The birds scratched, dented and defecated on the roofs and bonnets of cars, causing more than $10,000 in damage.
RSPCA rescue team leader Nalika said catching the avian agents of chaos was more difficult than expected.
“It’s impossible to grab them with your hands, they can fly vertically up at lightning speed,” she said.
“They are extremely intelligent and can sense when someone is trying to catch them and become very elusive.”
Nalika said the team was forced to start a feeding program to lure the birds into strategically-placed netting, but only managed to outsmart one of the offenders.
“The other two are now suspicious of our uniform so we will have to think outside the box … patience is key for capturing them safely,” Nalika said.
The RSPCA told The Advertiser the peacocks, which can be worth up to $1000, were suspected to be strays that were either dumped or escaped their enclosures.
While the first of the trio has now found a more suitable home, the remaining two birds remain on the lam.
