We couldn’t decide if we wanted a girl or a boy, so we asked our dog to choose

“We felt like including our dogs was the perfect idea since they are such a big part of our lives,” Serena says in the video.

Serena and Jacob were having trouble falling pregnant.

After failing to conceive naturally, they began trying for a baby through IVF in April.

By July, the Texas couple had three viable embryos to choose from - two girls and a boy.

The issue is they didn’t know what sex they wanted their baby to be, and they couldn’t decide on their own.

“We haven’t been able to decide if we want to transfer a girl or a boy embryo first,” Serena said in a TikTok

Talking to their doctor about the “strongest embryo”, he told them their “boy and one of [their] girls pretty much was exactly the same.”

After going “back and forth” about the decision, the pair ultimately realised they didn’t care if it was a boy or girl.

So, rather than choosing the sex of their baby themselves, they decided to get another family member to help.

“We really wanted to find opportunities to add a little magic back into growing our family, and we felt like including our dogs was the perfect idea since they are such a big part of our lives,” the couple told The NYPost.

The couple’s Goldendoodle, Charlie, would make the final call, thanks to a clever trick.

“Whichever ball he brings back is what we’re going with”

In the video, Serena holds up two tennis balls, one with “girl” and the other with “boy” written in black marker.

“We wrote boy and girl on each of these balls, and we’re going to throw them at the same time,” she explained. “Whichever one he brings back, that’s what we’re going to go with, and it’s going to be final.”

Throwing the balls, Charlie ran after them but didn’t grab one straight away.

“Wait, he’s going back and forth,” laughed Jacob. “Which one will it be?”

After a few tries at grabbing a tennis ball, Charlie eventually returned with the chosen sex.

Disappointingly, the couple hasn’t shared the baby’s sex yet but posted a snap of their pup with the chosen ball.

“Come back on August 7 to find out which embryo Charlie picked!” the couple added.

“My anxiety could never…”

The video has garnered plenty of attention, racking up more than 25,000 views.

“My anxiety could never…” someone joked. “Congratulations!”

Fans of the idea were guessing the gender that Charlie chose, but the happy couple offered no hints.

“It’s a girl, I can feel it!” one person guessed. “Gut feeling says ‘Boy’!” another chimed in.

"You'll have to wait and see!" the couple responded in glee.

Others “loved” the idea of including their pup in the milestone decision. “That is so cute,” wrote a supporter.

“This is such a cute way of picking which embryo to transfer,” said another.

“Great idea!” wrote a fan. “Omg, the suspense!” laughed another. “He had me on the edge of my seat!” Serena responded.
