‘We bought a block of land so our golden retriever could have his own playground’

The couple walks their beloved pooch in the area every day, so they decided to take their pet parenting to the next level.

A priority for any family is having enough space for your kids to roam around and have fun.

The goal is to have a place that offers the family plenty of variety and fun - this can be with a big backyard, a nearby playground, or a large inside area to let them run around.

But for those who don’t have kids, finding the optimal place to live is just as important.

This is especially true for a Perth couple who is ready to do anything for their fur baby.

“Our dog now has a playground”

A couple from Winthrop in Perth have ensured their golden retriever, Alfred, has the perfect space to run loose by buying him his own playground.

Well, sort of.

According to Domain, the couple purchased a vacant 556 sqm block of land, which is currently set up as a tennis court.

The couple lives in a nearby suburb and frequently walk their beloved pooch to his favourite park, Piney Lakes Reserve.

The kicker?

Alfred’s favourite play spot is conveniently located across the road from the recently-purchased block of land.

“The buyers were a young couple from Kardinya who walk their golden retriever Alfred at Piney Lakes Reserve every day, so they thought they should buy a block straight opposite the park,” said Ray White agent Noel Rogers.

“So Alfred now has a playground.”

Empty block of land had same interest as a “prestige home”

The “rare” listing was hotly sought after, with 50 groups attending the open for inspection. Rogers said the block of land had the same interest as a “prestige home.”

The popularity of this block of land was partly thanks to its close proximity to the park and a nearby high school but also for its “spectacular” atmosphere.

“We had interest from a range of age groups, from young couples to retirees and a lot of Winthrop property owners who saw it as a wonderful investment because of its spectacular ambience,” said Rogers.

Two active bidders were fighting for the property, with bids exceeding the opening bid by $190,000.

The couple purchased the lot for $890,000, beating out another couple who wanted to purchase the block so they could be closer to their parents.
