'Our baby arrived before the paramedics did'

Sydney mum Alanna thought she was just suffering from back pain before her waters broke. It set off a wild sequence that saw her partner delivering their baby on their lounge room floor.

An Aussie couple has been reunited with the Triple Zero operator who walked them through their unexpected home birth earlier this year.

9News reports Alanna Docherty was experiencing back pain a week before her due date, but didn’t know she had gone into labour until her waters broke.

Her fiance Tyrone Dabbousi rushed home when she called him, and told her to ring Triple Zero.

"This was one of our nicer calls"

Tyrone made it home before paramedics arrived, and the baby was already starting to crown.

“She was out in like five to 10 minutes, it was a really quick one,” Tyrone told 9News.

On the other end of the phone line was operator Vivienne Young, who took her time to walk the couple through delivering their second child while paramedics were on their way to the Georges Hall home in southwest Sydney.

"This is one of the nicer calls, one that we really take to heart and really enjoy and know that this is why we're here to help with these kinds of calls," Vivienne told 9News.

"She was sitting on the floor with a baby between her legs"

Two paramedics, Samantha Masterson and Doriana Szkudlerek, arrived shortly after the baby to help with after-birth care.

"Alanna was sitting on the floor in between the couches with a baby between her legs, still attached to the cord," Samantha told 9News.

Doriana said the two paramedics gave Alanna oxytocin, a hormone that helps get the last stages of labour going, and helped deliver the placenta.

All parties involved in the eventful birth reunited earlier this week, as Vivienne, Samantha and Doriana returned to Alanna and Tyrone’s home to meet their daughter.

Alanna told 9News she was “so grateful” for the team’s help.
