My daughter had a medical episode, I refused to watch her kids

"I hope your daughter sticks you in a home."

When your Mother in law is insistent on naming your baby

A grandmother has confessed she refused to look after her three grandchildren when her daughter called and said she was having a medical "emergency".

"A couple of weeks ago, she called me crying; I asked her what was wrong, and she said she had to go back to the hospital where she gave birth because she was having 9/10 pain in her uterus, and they wanted her to be seen at the hospital," the grandmother starts her post

"She asked if my husband was available to watch the kids so her husband could take her [to hospital]. I told her I didn't know where her dad was, but there was no way he was taking three kids. It just wasn't happening."

Naturally, the daughter was stunned when her mother denied her help. However, the OP maintains that given their ages—four, two, and newborn—they should all go with her and "just wait in the car."

"She said, 'Never mind, I'll just figure it out,' and hung up. I tried calling back, but she ignored my call," she continues.

"I feel she was entitled to ask"

Despite the grandmother downplaying her daughter's situation by adding quotation marks around "emergency" in her post - her daughter had three cysts on her ovaries, which is what was causing her pain.

"I think she's upset I told her no. It's too much for us. And I feel she was entitled to ask us to watch her three kids on such short notice."

She ends her post wondering if she was wrong in this scenario. The internet clapped back with a resounding "Yes!"

"Have the kids wait in the car? Have you ever been to the ER?"

"She wasn’t entitled. She had a MEDICAL EMERGENCY. At least she knows her parents are selfish-arsed people who will not step up in emergencies. YTA big time," the top commenter wrote.

"I feel sorry for the daughter and grandkids to have such an asshole of a grandparent," another added.

A user replied, "The silver lining is that it at least sounds like daughter has an awesome gem of a hubby to get her to the hospital and a supportive neighbour."

"Maybe ask her to schedule her cysts with you in future so a medical emergency doesn't inconvenience you?" one bluntly added.

"I don’t think you’re going to find many people that agree with you." another wrote. "She didn’t ask you to help so she could go out and party. She was in extreme pain. I’m happy she’s ok."

While this user didn't hold back: "YTA. Your daughter could have been dying for all you know."

"Have the kids wait in the car while she saw the doctor? Have you EVER been to the ER?" a shocked user wrote.

"What kind of mother dismisses how much pain their child is in?"

Users couldn't believe this could be true and did some digging. They were shocked to find that before deleting her account, the OP was replying to comments and doubling down on her decision by saying, "She's always exaggerated about her period pain ever since she was 9".

"Imagine deleting your account instead of taking responsibility, smh," one wrote.

"My summary impression is not very smart, extreme emotional immaturity, and self-involved but not self-aware," another added.

A third questioned: "What kind of mother dismisses how much pain their child is in?"

"I hope your daughter sticks you in a home"

Others quickly let the OP know she shouldn't expect a visit anytime soon.

"Can't wait when, in a few months or years, she complains about her daughter keeping her grandkids away from her," one wrote.

"Or when she's old and frail, can't drive and needs help getting to the hospital herself. I wouldn't be surprised if the daughter told her to figure it out herself," a second agreed.

And finally, "When you are old and decrepit, I hope your daughter sticks you in a home and has zero time or sympathy for you or your medical issues."
