‘My brother proposed during my wedding, it’s only fair I ruin his big day too’

“If it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander. Suck it, mum!”

Woman finds out son's bride is her long-lost daughter on their wedding day

It wasn’t long before Terry* and *Fiona’s wedding, and it seemed everything was falling into place.

Terry had been waiting for this moment for months; they live overseas, meaning it would be the only chance they get to see their family before travelling back home.

It was a day entirely dedicated to him and his future wife, and he wanted everything to be perfect.

Then, his brother Jacob* threw a spanner into the works.

My brother proposed at my wedding after I told him no

“My brother said he was going to propose at my wedding,” the American man told Reddit

“I told him no,” he responded, which sparked fury from his mother.

Actually, she “lost her s**t.”

“She said that he wanted family he night not see again for a while to be a part of the proposal,” she argued to her son.

But Terry saw things differently. After all, it was his wedding, so he should have the final say.

“I said I did not give a s**t and that if he did it, I would have him kicked out,” he said.

It appeared that Terry’s wishes for his own wedding weren’t heard, because Jacob decided to propose to his girlfriend at the ceremony anyway.

“And my mum said if I tried kicking him out, she would leave too,” Terry said.

All Terry can remember from that day, he recalled, was “seething inside” while his brother got down on one knee; his wife was also “furious” at Jacob’s actions.

“I almost chose violence at my wedding,” Terry recalled.

Months have passed since the wedding, but Terry hasn’t forgotten about his brother’s antics.

So, he decided to get his own back by making a spectacle of his own at Jacob’s wedding.

“My brother got married last weekend,” Terry explained. “Instead of a welcome to the family toast, I used the time to announce that we were expecting our first baby.”

Terry turned to look at his mother, who was “upset” that her son had hijacked the happy day.

“My mum says I was an asshole for taking attention away from my brother on his wedding day,” he said.

But his grandmother had a different perspective, telling his mother to “sit down and shut up.”

“We spent most of the reception talking to family we would not see again for a while about our coming baby,” Terry added.

His mother was still furious, which was elevated when Terry refreshed her memory of past events.

“She got really mad when I reminded her that she threatened to leave my wedding if I kicked him out after he proposed,” Terry said.

“That’s an easy way to wind up on someone’s s**t list”

People on Reddit quickly pointed out the favouritism Terry’s mum clearly displayed with her children and argued she was being tacky.

“It's blatantly obvious which one of you is the golden child,” read a comment.

“I think your grandmother read that very VERY well. Go grandma!” said another. “If it’s good for the goose, it’s good for the gander. Suck it, mum.”

Others were dumbfounded by Jacob’s actions during his brother’s wedding, which started the entire mess.

“But your bro!” someone wrote. “He asked, you said no, he did it anyway. That's an easy way to wind up on people's s**t list.”

“Personally, if a guy proposed during a wedding, I would feel cheated out of my own special day,” another agreed.

“He proposed on someone else's dime instead of doing it on his own.”
