Arianna and her husband had been trying to get pregnant for years, so their world totally changed when they confirmed the news.

She gave birth to her daughter, Kira, in August 2022.

From the moment they met her, the parents knew she was perfect in every way.

But since giving birth, Arianna has noticed that people, particularly women, have been making snarky comments about Kira.

Mum blasts strangers who body-shame her 9mo baby

Mum recorded seven incidences of fat shaming towards baby daughter

The American mum took to TikTok to rant about the situation. “Ladies, what are we doing?” she began.

“My daughter is nine months old, and in her nine months of being alive, I have had seven women comment negatively about her body,” she said.

She clarified that these remarks do not include “little cute” comments such as “cute little chunk” or “little rubs”.

“Obviously, I know that’s just what you do with little cute chunky babes,” she explained. “I don't understand. We are in 2023. My daughter is a baby- how, how?”

Arianna recalled when her friend’s mother-in-law approached her and her infant, who referred to her daughter’s appearance as “full.”

The woman also made gestures that indicated the nine-month-old baby was overweight. “I go, 'I'm sorry - I don't know what you're talking about, she's perfectly proportioned',” the mum responded.

When the woman left, her friend told Arianna her “Mama bear” side came out. “And I’m like, ‘Yeah, no s**t!’” she said.

“If women have the audacity - especially mums - have the audacity to say this stuff out loud … what are we doing to our little girls?" she added.

“It is my job to help her feel confident about her body and who she is,” she said. “I know kids are gonna be mean, in general … they always are. But mums, I freaking expect more from you!”

She further explained that it wasn’t “just Baby Boomers” who made these comments, but millennials, too.

“I knew these comments would happen eventually, but not this young. Ladies, we need to change this for our kiddos,” she said.

“How is this sort of thing still happening?”

The comments were flooded with similar stories and scenarios, with parents outraged at the blatant body-shaming of children.

“My grandma said something about her two-day-old great-granddaughter needing exercise," a shocked parent wrote.

“My mum got excited when my nephew started crawling because he was going to start losing weight,” added another.

“Our girl is seven months old. Ninety per cent of the time we go in public, she gets called fat. Not chubby, fat. It upsets me so much for her. Breaks my heart,” said another mum.

Others were disappointed that the comets hadn’t become a thing of the past. “It is heartbreaking to me that this is still happening!” a shocked women commented.

“The internalised hatred of our bodies and the projection of it onto every other living thing is real,” another wrote.

Some pointed out how baby girls are more likely to receive nasty comments than boys.

“My niece gets comments like this all the time, and it irks me so bad,” a woman commented. “My son has never.”

“I’ve only gotten positive chunky remarks about my boy, this makes me so sad and so scared to ever have a girl,” said another.
