I’ve had eight C-sections - people say I’m crazy but I don’t plan on stopping

Ever since Mercedes Lynn was little, she always dreamed of having a large family. 

She and her husband were high school sweethearts, giving birth to their first child when she was 17.

Flash forward to today, and the couple have expanded their family beyond their own expectations - eight kids and counting, all born via caesarean.

Mum gives birth to all eight kids via C-section

In September, the Iowa mum announced she welcomed their eighth baby to the family.

The birth of her recent baby prompted many people to ask if she planned on stopping.

To be specific, they asked if she was going to get her tubes tied. 

“Now you’ve had your eighth C-section, surely you got your tubes tied this time?” the caption read of her recent video. 

Dancing in the front seat of her car, the 30-year-old smiled at the camera and shook her head. “I’ll never understand why people think this is the best,” she added. 

She clarified in a later clip that she was “always one of those girls that grew up wanting to have a lot of kids” and would go so far as to “write down the names of all the future kids I was gonna have.” 

She and her husband were high school sweethearts, and while he only thought about having two kids, she had her sights on six.

“So maybe we just added them together,” she laughed. “Six and two.”

Couple doesn’t rule out having more kids

While Mercedes didn’t explicitly say whether they were planning on having another baby, her large TikTok audience is under the impression that this won’t be the last pregnancy. 

She explained that she and her husband don’t mind if they have another baby, but they’re also content if this is their last child. 

No matter what their future holds, the couple believes each child is a “huge, huge blessing.” 

“We believe that they're going to have a huge impact in the world and that they all each have a purpose,” she said in a later video. 

“So we're excited to see what that is!”

“People should mind their own business”

Her clips have been slammed by people online, who wondered why she would put her body through so many “risky” operations. 

“Are you not scared?” a woman asked. “I would be so scared to get pregnant again for my own health and to be there for the rest of the kids in case something happened.” 

Others were downright cross. 

“Wow... the audacity of some people,” said one. “That's madness,” a mother added. “I had my sixth C-section, it’s not easy.” 

“You’ll never understand?” a perplexed person asked. “It puts mother and baby at risk, especially with a high number of C-sections.” 

“What [are] the health implications and risks of having many C-sections?” another wondered. “I was told three is the max?”

But she had defenders, too. 

“It’s always ‘my body my choice’ till someone chooses what they want,” someone shot back.

“People should mind their own business,” said another. 

Some accused her of lying about her numerous C-sections, prompting Mercedes to hit back, saying, “I’m not sure how to prove to you that I’ve had eight C-sections, but my non-existent stomach muscles remind me every day.” 

Mother shared the moment they knew they were having their tubes tied. 

“I had mine removed during C-section number four,” said one mum. “My body couldn't handle anymore and for cancer prevention.”

“I got mine removed C-section number five, my body couldn’t handle it no more,” another added.
