I will continue to vape through my pregnancy... just like I did with my first

A young mum is defending her decision to continue vaping while she's pregnant and wants to put an end to mothers being shamed for it.

Breaking the stigma pregnant woman shares her positive experience with vaping

When Kaylee kept seeing negative comments all over social media about vaping while pregnant, she simply couldn’t hold back any longer.

“This is my second pregnancy, and I’m still vaping, I vaped my entire first pregnancy too," the young mum reveals in her viral TikTok video.

The mother, who is 14 weeks pregnant, took to the app to put mum-shaming to an end once and for all, especially when it comes to humiliating the ones with an addiction to vape pens.

"People need to stop coming at pregnant women for vaping"

"This is typically something I wouldn’t post because I don’t like to get on here and talk, but something that has been flooding my 'For You Page' for the last few days is actually bothering me a lot," the agitated young woman declared.

"People need to stop shaming other mums for either smoking or vaping while they’re pregnant.

"I am on my second pregnancy, I’m about 14 weeks, and I vaped my whole first pregnancy with my daughter."

"Vaping is an addiction that we can't all knock"

Kaylee did go on to say that despite her wanting to end the toxic cycle of verbal bashing, she is not by any means justifying the act, but does understand what it means to have an addiction.

"Nicotine is a real addiction and just with anything else, it’s not going to be easy to knock," she said.

"I have been on other drugs and I’m completely sober… apart from this vape, it’s crazy, I really can’t knock this thing at all!

"But why are we shaming people for that? Like really?"

"Don't be selfish by vaping, put your child before yourself"

The comment section quickly filled with high levels of further judgement and hate… exactly what Kaylee was speaking out against.

"Addiction definitely isn’t easy, but as a mother it’s natural to put the health of your kid before it, “one commenter exclaimed.

“Because it’s not just about you or the person pregnant anymore. It’s selfish to not stop. I stopped 6 days after I found out,” declared a fellow mother.

“Ummm I was smoking cigarettes and vaping everyday for 6 years. I found out I was pregnant at 6 weeks, quit by 8,” wrote a former smoker.

“This obviously shows you care about yourself first,” said an exasperated user.

Dangers of smoking and vaping while pregnant

  • Cigarette smoke and vapour contain toxic chemicals like nicotine. These chemicals can increase the risk of miscarriage, stillbirth, premature birth or low birth weight in your baby.
  • Nicotine and other harmful chemicals in cigarette smoke and vapour can damage your baby’s brain and lungs and increase risks for asthma, childhood illness, and cleft lip and palate.
  • Sudden unexpected death in infancy (SUDI) is strongly linked to smoking cigarettes or using vapes containing nicotine during pregnancy or after birth.
  • Smoking or vaping might reduce how much breastmilk you make and put harmful substances in your breastmilk. But even if you smoke or vape, breastfeeding is still best for your baby.
  • It’s never too late to quit. For example, one hour after you quit, the risk of pregnancy complications and your baby’s risk of illness goes down.
