Dad limits his Christmas spending to $5.4 mill due to cost-of-living crisis

The dad-of-eight will spoil all of his kids, including his toddler who will receive an apartment.

Britain's first gay dads (This Morning)

British billionaire Barrie Drewitt-Barlow isn't personally feeling the pinch of the cost-of-living crisis, but out of respect to those who are, he's decided to dial down his Christmas spending this year.

Considerate, right?

The dad, who rose to fame for being the UK's first gay dad to father children through surrogacy with his then-partner Tony, says he'll only be spending around $5.4 million AUD this festive season as opposed to the $7.7 million he spent last year.

"I’ve limited Christmas this year to no more than  $5.4 million"

The now dad-of-eight, 53, will spoil all of his kids, including his toddler who will receive a flat.

Considering he's worth an estimated $385 million, this haul will hardly make a dent in his massive fortune.

He told The Sun, "I know the whole country is feeling the pinch this year.

"I see and hear of people losing their jobs and homes, but it has been a super record year for me and our businesses this year - so I plan to celebrate!

"Whatever my girl wants, she can have"

So, how will that be broken down?

"Aspen, my son, has recently started his own company buying land to build luxury apartments and houses. I wanted to get him something special to celebrate Christmas and his success, so a new Rolex and a G-wagon for him, worth over $570k," he said.

"For his wife, Pim, a new apartment in Bangkok, where she comes from, close to her family’s home, worth $3.4 million and a new rose gold Rolex worth $57k.

"For Orlando, a new Mercedes CLK and a Rolex worth over $385k."

His daughter Saffron (who welcomed her millionaire baby back in June) will receive a Rolex too, along with a whole new wardrobe and a bunch of Louis Vuitton bags and suitcases.

He added, "Whatever my girl wants, she can have."

The businessman hasn't yet decided on what to get his one-year-old Romeo, but thinks investment property is a good idea to help set him up for the future.

In terms of how the family will be spending Christmas, Drewitt-Barlow said they're flying everyone to his beach house in Miami.

"But to make it extra special, I have a team of chefs and waiters and a full house staff to take care of their every whim."
