Imagine a $50m lotto windfall landing in your bank account ... all of a sudden interest rate rises and the rental crisis wouldn’t be a worry anymore!

Oz Lotto’s jackpot soared to its highest level since January, just four weeks after a South Australian woman scooped $40m in Powerball. But this time it wasn’t a South Aussie but a punter in Victoria who became one of the biggest lottery winners of 2022 after buying the only division one winning entry across the nation.

That means they scooped the entire $50 million jackpot – but they might not even know it yet.

They purchased the ticket at a Tatts outlet in Casey, in Melbourne’s southeast.The winner was unregistered, meaning the ticketholder will have to come forward to claim their prize.

There’s a reason the Oz Lotto division one prize had kept rolling over for five draws in a row.

You need to get seven balls correct out of 47 to win. That means the odds of winning are 1 in 62,891,499 – compared to 1 in 8,145,060 for Saturday Lotto where you only need to pick six balls.

At least Oz Lotto still has much better odds than Powerball, where your chance of winning is a mere 1 in 134,490,400.

But this list of Australia’s 10 biggest lotto winners of all time shows that sometimes incredible good fortune does strike.

In 2019, a Sydney nurse became Australia’s current individual lottery record-holder when she won $107,575,649.

There have now been 13 Oz Lotto division one wins across Australia with a collective total of more than $225m, thanks to the latest win.

Six of those division one winning entries came from New South Wales, three from Queensland, one from Western Australia and now three from Victoria.

If you’re superstitious, the most frequently drawn Oz Lotto numbers in the last 20 draws are 28, 21, 5 and 16; while the least frequently drawn numbers are 26, 15, 13 and 44.
