Olivia Molly Rogers flagged issues nine months in to relationship with ex-husband, Justin McKeone

Former Miss Universe Australia has opened up about having “doubts” just nine months in to her relationship with finance expert, Justin McKeone.

Olivia Molly Rogers' break-up revelation

Former Miss Universe Australia Olivia Molly Rogers has revealed she began having doubts about her five-year relationship only nine months in.

Adelaide-born Rogers, who boasts over 200,000 followers on Instagram, said her relationship with finance expert, Justin McKeone was “imbalanced” and fraught with communication problems.

The beauty told the hosts of the Happy Hour with Lucy & Nikki podcast that she had given her ex “a hundred chances” to improve their relationship but it inevitably never happened.

She said she and McKeone had different “attachment styles”.

“At the time we got together, I was quite anxious,” Rogers said.

“I was quite insecure and he was really avoidant, and anxious attached and avoidant is just like, it’s not a good combination.

“Because the more anxious you are, the more avoidant they become and that was like a pattern for us.”

Rogers told podcast hosts, Lucy Jackson and Nikki Westcott “hindsight” had been a “beautiful thing” throughout the break-up.

“There was something in our relationship,” she said.

“Probably as early as like, nine months in, the way that we communicate is very different.

“Our conflict resolution was terrible and I think I saw glimpses of good and I just hoped that those things would get better.

“I feel like that’s such a common thing in relationships – you keep working at it, but you know, sometimes you just got to make the call when you’ve tried over and over again.”

Rogers said she thought being married would give her “that extra security (she) was missing” or that “it would change something and make things better”.

“But it obviously doesn’t do that,” she said.

The influencer said she didn’t grow up with a “healthy strong” relationship to look up to. Rogers’ parents divorced when she was quite young and although her Dad remarried, Rogers didn’t live with them.

“I didn’t know what was a normal amount of push and pull and like, how much you should put up with,” she said.

“But I think, in my gut, I knew.”

Despite getting a divorce at 30, Rogers doesn’t regret anything about her five-year union.

“I think I probably needed everything to unfold as it did to get to the point that it did because I am a optimist and I would have kept trying regardless,” she said.

“If I had pulled the pin at any other point then I would have always wondered, if I had given it one more try.

“But when it got to the end, I just felt like I had literally given a hundred chances.

“So yeah, it was time to give up.”

The podcast was her second appearance this week talking about the failed relationship.

After speaking on the Life Uncut podcast, Rogers’ ex husband, McKeone hit back by posting on Instagram.

“A wise person once said never believe there is one side to a story. Respect the dignity of a broken marriage > speaking publicly,” McKeone wrote.

“My nearest and dearest know my side and that’s all that matters to me. That’s all you’ll ever (hear) from me. Thank you for all the messages of support – I can honestly say I’ve never been happier.”
