Is Michael Paddick the state’s best maternity photographer?
It was his wife’s pregnancy with their baby girl that inspired Michael Paddick to take up maternity photography in 2022.
“I sort of saw how cool it was after doing her shoot, and how creative you can be during maternity,” Mr Paddick said.
“You can get a lot more creative with it, with the bellies and stuff (and) anything you sort of do with maternity always looks cool.”
The self-taught photographer said while he tends to shoot more weddings, he has a passion for helping growing families “make memories” through maternity photo shoots.
“People are always getting pregnant, so there are always maternity shoots to do,” the 32-year-old said.
“Then you have people who have been trying (to fall pregnant) for so long so it is good, like everyone says, to have those memories to look back on.”
Mr Paddick said that the style of maternity photography has changed from the classic “beach with (a) flowy gown” look with many more mums-to-be opting for more daring and creative ideas.
The Trott Park local now finds himself creating maternity magic in a range of locations, with some women even asking for underwater photo shoots.
“When they book me now … they say ‘you do whatever you want’ … which is good,” Mr Paddick said.
“It’s really nice to have people actually want to do something different every single time.”
