My neighbour asked me to take down my 'morbid' Halloween decorations

His reasoning was heartbreaking, but it's the mum's unexpected reaction that has everyone talking.

My neighbour asked me to take down my Halloween decorations

It's spooky season, which means people have started to go all out with decorating their houses.

One mum, Salena Webb, is no exception. She created a full mock cemetery in her front garden, complete with ghosts, spiderwebs, pumpkins, a witch and skeletons carrying a casket.

It's quite impressive, and from the looks of it, it took a while to complete.

So when a neighbour came over and asked her to take it down, people were shocked at her unexpected reaction.

The heartbreaking reason behind the request

In classic American fashion, the whole interaction was caught on Salena's ring camera, which films her front door.

On TikTok, you can hear Salena's neighbour say, "Hey um, I know you’re celebrating Halloween and all that stuff. He [the neighbour’s dad] just got diagnosed with lung cancer the other day.

"And you know the thing is kinda scary." He said all this while pointing to the cemetery scene. "Would you mind taking just the casket out?" he asks.

Straight away, Salena tells the man she totally understands and that she'll take it out immediately.

The clip then cuts to footage of Salena's husband removing the casket and taking it to their backyard instead, out of sight of the neighbours.

She explained in the caption, "My family knows I love Halloween and my decorations took me a while to make and put up. I had just purchased the skeleton carrying the casket to go along with my graveyard to really set my Halloween decor off this year.

"I was a little sad at first but I thought about the bigger picture. Me removing my casket isn't hurting me at all but it may ease and bring my neighbour a little bit of peace as he adjusts to this news."

She concluded, "Kindness is free and compassion goes a long way. Now what to replace it with."

"That was incredibly compassionate of you"

Down in the comments, many users praised Salena's thoughtfulness.

"Now this is a neighbourly thing to do... kindness doesn’t cost..thank you, mama," one person wrote.

Someone else said, "This was so beautifully handled. Thank you for being so kind. The world needs more people like you."

And a third added, "I would take it down without hesitation too. And probably cry when I close the door."

Salena replied: "I felt so bad. I can't imagine looking out the window at my house and seeing it 24/7."

"He was so gentle about it and that was incredibly compassionate of you," someone else pointed out.

"It probably took him so much courage to come and ask you which I assume means it was truly affecting him. Thank you for being kind," a different woman concluded.
