Mark Muscat, more commonly known as the “Magpie Man” has added another feather to his warbling hat.

The 62 year old social media star is set to feature in a new Australian film based on the first

same-sex marriage following its legalisation in 2017.

In the true story, entitled “No Harm Done”, Mr Muscat will play a “gangster” named after his alter ego.

“They’re preparing for the wedding and they’re asking different wedding planners to come in and we’re the budget option, they cast me as one of the gangsters,” he told The Advertiser.

The plot surrounds how the lives of two loving parents are “turned upside down” on their son’s wedding day when they find out he is gay and marrying his best friend.

“They wanted to focus on the parents and their point of view,” Mr Muscat explained.

Directed by Nathan Large for Wow City Productions, the film is on the festival circuit and is expected to become available to watch on streaming sites.

Mr Muscat rose to fame during the peak of the Covid pandemic.

Inspired by a video posted by John Travolta, he posted his first magpie call impression on TikTok, and the rest is history.

The video was viewed approximately 1.4m times within a few days.

“I picked it up at three or four, it’s been my party trick for years,” he joked.

“I think the fact that what I do is quite unique made it viral.”

With some help from a video editor friend, the TikTok account boomed and now boasts more than 250k followers and 5.6m collective views on his videos.

Mr Muscat hopes his acting ventures and social media content, sometimes featuring a full-body magpie costume, will raise the profile of the swooping bird.

He claims South Australia is “really the magpie state, not the piping shrike state”.

“It’s the smartest bird in the world and it has a beautiful song,” he said.

“My goal is to have the magpie promoting Australia to the world.”
