There’s a new speciality business coming to Naracoorte, striving to give the town its very own one-stop shop for “all things Limestone Coast”.
Limestone Coast Local Co, created by local couple Mary and Guy Stratford of Wild Game Wine and Honey, will provide producers from across the region with a place to showcase and sell their products.
The Stratfords, joined by their Wild Game employee and friend Karen Gillespie, are renovating the shop at 10 Ormerod St into a place to highlight and sell local products.
Ms Gillespie said the shop was initially set to be used as storage for Wild Game Honey, but seeing the potential in the building’s front showroom, they recognised an opportunity to create a place to showcase local products.
“Mary’s always been passionate about shopping local and supporting local producers, craftspeople and those sorts of things,” Ms Gillespie said.
“That’s why we always use South Australian produce on a platters at the cellar door and also bring in local musicians and entertainers whenever we have events there.”
“So when the building (on Ormerod St) came up we got it initially to use as storage for the honey business but there was the showroom out the front that wasn’t being used so we decided to put it to good use.”
Ms Gillespie said the vision for the shop was to provide a place for people who regularly attend local markets with another, more permanent place to sell their products.
“It’s also an opportunity for locals to make things specific to the region – like souvenirs and stuff – that visitors might like to buy, so it’ll definitely be a shop for tourists and locals alike,” she said.
“At the moment we’re not planning on putting any limit on what people can stock – we’ve got some locally made furniture lined up, as well as pottery and ceramics, jewellery, art, coffee, preserved food such as our honey, we’re also hoping to get a liquor licence so we can stock and sell alcohol as well.
“Basically we want it to be the one-stop shop for locals and visitors to come by and purchase locally grown, made or produced products.”
“Eventually we’re planning to put together and sell gift packs as well – like an assortment of different products that can be purchased and given as gifts.”
Limestone Coast Local Co is likely to open in Naracoorte in late November.
Any Limestone Coast vendors interested in being a part of the shop’s offering is encourage to reach out to the store.
“Together we can shine a spotlight on the Limestone Coast and its wonderful wares!” the shop’s announcement post reads.
