Australians have been left baffled over a mystery logo that appears to be found in many houses around the country.

In a viral post on discussion website Reddit, a user shared a picture of a glass door with a sticker featuring four black rings interlaced together.

They asked: “What is this Audi like logo on every glass doors and windows in Australia?” above the image.

“I tried finding this on internet with no luck. Any help is much appreciated”, they added, before the post was flooded with comments and reactions.

While some say they look like the Olympic rings, others agree with the poster's observation that they appear similar to an Audi car’s logo.

Some thought they were simply a nice pattern people liked on their doors and windows, while others believe they could be the logo of the glass door company.

However, the truth is actually very simple.

The rings are there to stop people running into glass doors or windows, potentially injuring themselves.

“Pretty sure it’s just a pattern to help you see the door so you don’t walk into it,” one said.

“Having walked face first into many doors, can confirm this is what they’re for,” a user shared.

“The technical term for this is ‘manifestations’ if you want to really get into the building code nitty gritty,” another explained.

Others have said that they have helped prevented devastating run-ins, while others shared that they have even started putting more stickers on themselves to help people of all heights.

In a similar post, one woman shared a photo of a mysterious bathroom item to Facebook and asked the community what it could be.

“We moved in recently, and I can’t work out what this is in the shower?” she asked.

“Both showers have it – any idea? It slopes down, it doesn’t really hold a soap bar.”

Some people in the comments were also confused by the ceramic shower item, with many saying they had never seen anything like it before.

“It looks like a soap holder that has been installed upside down, very odd” one person suggested.

“Yes, I think it’s a soap holder that’s been put in the wrong way” agreed another.

But despite the speculation, there was no concrete answer – until now.

Researching more into the product, it was discovered that the mystery item was actually a foot rest, which would come in handy when shaving your legs.

Speaking to a distributer of the product, news.com.au found out that while these installations were once very popular, interest in them died down significantly after the 1990s.

“That looks to me like a ceramic foot rest, quite common throughout the 70s-90s a bit less popular today” a spokesperson for Beaumont Tiles said.

“They are designed for those shaving their legs to prop their foot on for stability and balance so they don’t slip while shaving.
