‘Missing’ ingredient on Australian Macca’s burger angers Aussies

McDonald’s is copping criticism for a string of new menu items – as fans discover a new Aussie burger doesn’t have a vital topping.

Macca’s fans are up in arms after noticing a vital ingredient on the fast-food’s new Aussie Angus Deluxe is “missing”.

McDonald’s recently launched the second half of its summer menu, adding the Australian themed burger to menus along with McSpicy Deluxe, potato scallops with chicken salt and Hokey Pokey Thickshake.

But eagle-eyed customers have noticed there’s something different about McDonald’s Aussie burger which has been sold for short runs in the past.

Previously, the stacked burger has had a fried egg sandwiched between the bun and patty, as well as beetroot, cheese and lettuce.

Despite the fact the McDonald’s app shows a photo of a burger with a fried egg included, the limited-edition Aussie Angus Deluxe doesn’t contain it this time around.

Naturally, some true-blue Aussies aren’t happy about the “missing” ingredient, slamming the move on social media.

“This Summer we’ve got the latest spins on your burger favourites. The Aussie Angus is 100 per cent Aussie Angus beef, meets beetroot, bacon, cheese and lettuce, with the introduction of tomato relish and aioli,” a McDonald’s spokesperson told news.com.au.

While the fast-food giant said it was “looking forward to hearing what customers think”, it seems the bold move hasn’t gone down well, with one fan rating the burger four out of 10 because of the missing egg.

“The photo on here, on the app, shows an egg, but when you click into it the egg is gone and not listed in the ingredients,” food blogger Russ Eats shared in a video, describing it as a “scandal”.

“They have either forgotten it here or there is no egg this year.”

Describing it as “un-Australian”, Russ proceeded to order the burger at a drive-through, and confirmed there was no egg inside.

“No egg,” he said showing the burger to the camera.

“Confirmed no egg on the Aussie Angus.

“An Aussie burger has an egg.”

Russ also reviewed the scallops as well as the new thickshake, giving the fried potato item a poor rating of three out of 10.

“It’s like a servo scallop that’s sat under the heat lamps too long,” he claimed.

However, he loved the limited-edition drink, giving it a nine of out 10.

“It tastes like a Golden Gaytime, it’s mad.”

Russ wasn’t the only customer who thought the highly-anticipated potato scallops failed to hit the mark, with Melbourne bloke Ange Eats posting a lacklustre review.

“They look like a hash brown with chicken salt seasoning, and it was $3.05 for two of these,” Ange explained on TikTok.

After pouring the seasoning straight onto the fried potato slice, Ange took a bite, claiming: “It’s nothing special.”

“This tastes soggy and rubbery,” he said. “Guys, if you feel like a potato cake, go to your local fish and chip shop to pick one up.”
