The supermarket worker has revealed why if you shop at this particular time of day you might end up going home empty-handed.

It’s one of the most popular items when grocery shopping, but one Woolworths worker has revealed why if you shop at this particular time of day, you might end up going home empty-handed and disappointed.

Woolies worker Katie Murdock, who runs popular TikTok account @itskatematee, revealed in a new video posted on Thursday why afternoon supermarket runs on public holidays could mean you miss out on fresh bakery bread.

“If you come in on a holiday – Australia Day – in the afternoon and we have run out of stock, don’t get mad,” the Brisbane woman said.

“What do you expect? Everyone comes early. If you come in at 3 o’clock in the afternoon when we’ve been here since 1am (don’t be surprised) that you didn’t get bread.”

Ms Murdock also explained why it was impossible to slice warm bread and why they couldn’t fulfil certain customer requests.

“There is only thick and thin slice, no middle thickness – it does not exist. If we say OK, we’re lying,” she said.

“We cannot give you a sliced warm loaf. If it’s hot we cannot slice it, it will literally just turn back into dough and just crumble.”

Ms Murdock also revealed the question she was sick of being asked at Woolworths.

“Everything is made daily,” she said. “If I get asked one more time, is this fresh? We’re called the fresh food people.”

In the comments, one person said “only Australians get this”, while other bakery staff said they could also relate.

“I work in a bakery and this happens way too much,” one commented.

WOOLIES WORKER’S PLEA TO BUY OLD BREAD FIRST

Back in April, Ms Murdock made another TikTok asking customers to stop buying the freshest bread first as it leads to food waste.

“It’s like that for a reason so that it goes in order and we don’t waste anything,” she said in the video.

“We usually have (the amount of) what we think is going to sell and we put it in rotation of what’s oldest to newest.”

Customers taking fresher items from the back caused an unnecessary amount of food waste, Ms Murdock warned.

“When people do this they try and search for the newest one, it ends up leaving the oldest ones last and a lot of the time we end up having to throw them out, so please don’t,” she said.

“A day-old bread won’t make much of a difference to you, I promise.

“You will not even be able to taste the difference I promise you, but it does make a hell of a lot of difference to our farmers and us.”
