Team behind Clever Little Tailor to open new Adelaide restaurant Longplay Bistro on Pirie St

The minds behind two of Adelaide’s most popular laneway bars are opening their first city restaurant – and they’ve recruited chefs from an acclaimed Hills eatery.

Adelaide named a 'cool city' by the Wall Street Journal

The team behind popular laneway bars Clever Little Tailor and Pink Moon Saloon are expanding their offering with a new restaurant in the CBD.

Longplay Bistro on Pirie St in the city will showcase modern European cuisine, delivering classic dishes in a stylish yet casual setting.

On the menu, created by former The Summertown Aristologist chefs Calum Horn and Jude Hughes, will be fresh pasta, steak and fries, and seafood plates, among others, which be paired with quality wine.

Located below comedy venue Rhino Room, the eatery is the brainchild of Marshall King, Henry Holland and Dana Whyte, the trio behind Peel St favourite Clever Little Tailor and fellow CBD small bar Pink Moon Saloon.

Mr King said Longplay will be an “extension” of the CLT, which was one of Adelaide’s first small bars when it launched in 2013.

“We’ve been trying to broaden the experience … bringing food into the picture is a big part of that for us. We’ve wanted to work with food for a long time, it’s a passion of ours,” he said.

“We’re looking to take care of people with the finer things, you can come in and feel a little bit special, and enjoy a special bottle of wine as well.”

Supported by Renew Adelaide, the restaurant takes its name from the music it will play, adding a special ambience to the dining experience.

“We are a little on the anti-Spotify side at the moment … so our concept for this is that we’ll just have a single turntable and we’ll just play the record through, instead of changing the songs every five minutes,” said Mr King, adding that jazz is likely to be a popular genre at the venue.

“It’ll be a little bit like you’re at a friend’s house and you’re having dinner and you’re listening to a record. We’ll just let it play out.”

Longplay Bistro will open next Wednesday, starting with lunch service Wednesday to Friday, and dinner from Wednesday to Sunday.
