Served cold: Uber Eats review revenge plot leaves bitter taste

A Port Adelaide man says he’s being trolled with fake Google reviews on his business after a messy altercation with an Uber Eats driver.

A Port Adelaide professional has had fake Google reviews on his business removed, which he says were a revenge attack after a messy altercation with an Uber Eats driver.

Ryan Jones is engaged in an ongoing battle with the online food and transport giant, and said some of the fake one-star reviews still remain after several weeks.

Mr Jones ordered a meal from the service to his workplace and later gave a “thumbs down” review.

“My main problem with the delivery was that I had to go out into the middle of the road to do the pick up, where he had double parked and blocked traffic,’’ Mr Jones said.

He said the fake bad reviews on his business were posted in revenge by the Uber Eats driver and his associates.

“Two hours later I got an alert saying we were getting one-star reviews on Google.

“I recognised the name of the driver, but then there were up to a dozen other reviews and when you clicked on them they had all reviewed the same places and given them the same star ratings.

“It was obviously a group he co-ordinated.”

Google’s records show Mr Jones’ business, which has not been named to avoid further trolling, had a near five-star reputation until this month.

Uber has been contacted for comment, but in trying to resolve Mr Jones’ complaints acknowledged it had talked to the driver and told him to remove the fake ratings.

“You can file a police complaint about this and Uber will comply accordingly,’’ the unnamed Uber staff member stated.

Remaining in dispute is a lone one-star review which Uber has told Mr Jones it cannot link to the driver who made the Uber eats delivery.

Mr Jones has provided Uber with the matching review history by the group, but says it will not take any further action.
