Neighbouring restaurants, Cumin and Cinnamon Club heat up Henley Beach strip

Things are getting spicy near one of Adelaide’s most popular beaches, as two Indian restaurants set up to trade – directly across from each other.

Things are getting spicy on Henley Beach Rd, as adjacent Indian restaurants set up to trade on the beachside strip.

Cumin Club caused a stir when it moved into the site Cinnamon Club used to occupy at 17 Henley Beach Rd.

But Cinnamon Club hasn’t gone far – it’s preparing to open a new refurbished store under new management directly across the road at number 16.

The openings were revealed in a social media post by the Visit Henley Beach account, with people immediately flocking to the comments.

“Saw it with my own eyes,” commented Evyan Jarrett.

“Gone across the road in the old Zante place.”

Mia Andeopoulos asked: “Why have two Indian restaurants on opposite sides of the road?”

As well as Cinnamon Club’s old site, it appears Cumin Club has taken over its former social media profiles.

Instagram account cuminclubhenleybeach is peppered with references to Cinnamon Club.

“Sunny days at Cinnamon Club Henley Beach are our favourite – especially with crazy delicious dishes like this,” a post at the top of its grid said.

“You haven’t had a cocktail, until you’ve had a Cinnamon Club cocktail,” said another.

Chef Jwala Singh owns and operates Cinnamon Club at Norwood.

He didn’t expect the confusion to last and was excited to take over the management of the Henley Beach site.

“I like the location, I like the community – and we have a huge following in Henley Beach,” he told the Advertiser.

“So I’m excited to open at Henley Beach.”

Mr Singh said it was a good thing people would be spoiled for choice when it comes to dining out.

“Competition is always good,” he said.

“It makes it more exciting (and) it makes you work harder.”

He hoped the new venue would be open before Christmas.

Cumin Club was contacted for comment.
