Miss Banh Mi
Don’t be put off by the long lines at this southern suburbs institution – the wait is most definitely worth it.
Their roast pork (or combination) variety is a clear favourite among regulars, which makes sense given the huge quantities of meat, pickled veg and other ingredients that are crammed
into their big, crunchy rolls. It’s a substantial meal, always super fresh and terrific value.
There’s plenty of options for vegetarian, vegan or gluten-free diners, with their salt and pepper tofu banh mi highly rated by connoisseurs of the popular cuisine.

Saigon Vietnamese Rolls
Crispy and full of flavour, those in the know say the crackling on Saigon’s roast pork rolls are tough to beat around town.
Their chicken offering also flies out the door, thanks to generous servings of protein, served on top of fresh veggies and nestled inside a tasty, chewy baguette.
Like any dish, it’s all about consistency and customers rave about each and every bite.
It’s a great option for those looking for an eastern suburbs feed but make sure to get in early as lines are a regular occurrence during the lunchtime rush. You don’t want to risk missing out.

Banh Mi Cha Phu Xuong
There’s plenty of competition in this part of Adelaide, with Hanson Rd regarded as the epicentre of quality banh mi. But ChaPhu Xuong stands out from the rest.
Light, crispy rolls for the perfect filling-to-bread ratio, a good dash of mayo and pate, flavoursome pork, delightful pickle and balanced chilli.
Khai Hoang Nguyen and his wife Dao have run this shop for more than five years and each day Mr Nguyen is up to start work at 3am, roasting the pork belly and delivering traditional pork cold cuts that are Cha Phu Xuong’s specialty.

CL Bakery
Formerly known as Hang Bakery, this eatery at the entrance of Paralowie Village has undergone renovations but the quality of their banh mi has not deviated.
The meat to vegetable to bread ratio is ideal. The roast pork is well-seasoned and comes with a healthy serving of crackling, alongside the standard pickled vegetables, butter and pate, plus a good hit of chilli.
The roll itself ticks all the boxes, which isn’t surprising given it comes from a bakery: light, fluffy yet crunchy as well. A top notch Viet roll that keeps delivering even after all these years.

Banh Mi Nhu Lan
Also vying for the title of Hanson Rd’s tastiest banh mi is this longtime favourite.
More of a restaurant than its neighbours, it’s always bustling with locals seeking a quick feed or visitors keen to try what some describe as the most authentic Vietrolls in town.
At lunchtime, those takeaway rolls are the main attraction. Showing a lighter hand with the spreads, there’s plenty of crackling, a particularly good sweet/sour pickle on the vegetables, all finished with coriander and chilli.
It’s an explosion of flavours yet nicely balanced at the same time. Coupled with a fresh baguette that’s crunchy but not too chewy, Nhu Lan’s reputation for excellence is on the money.
