A Barossa Valley winery is in no doubt tourists will be back in droves, revealing plans for a multimillion-dollar eatery and tasting room.
US-owned Accolade Wines will create more than 20 jobs with significant changes to its St Hallett winery at Tanunda.
The 600sq m space, designed by Adelaide architects studio-gram, renowned for their portfolio of small bars in Adelaide’s CBD, is expected to open late in 2022 pending approvals from the Barossa Council.
The venue will bring together Accolade Wines’ premium brands St Hallett, Grant Burge and Rolf Binder in a “multi-brand experience”.
Accolade national cellar door manager Andrew McDowell said the project had been about 18 months in planning.
“We have spent a lot of time getting the concept right, making sure we enhance the site, while protecting the heritage and history,” he said.
“Really, this is a big investment and trust in the fact that Australians and overseas (tourists) will be coming back.”
He said the project would greatly boost staff numbers in the cellar door and new restaurant with “events staff on top”.
“We will be inviting leading operators from around the country to partner in this exciting opportunity,” he said.
“We have beautiful extensive grounds at St Hallett, this is designed to champion them and make use the best way we can.”
Mr McDowell said the project was expected to go out for public consultation this month.
“We don’t expect a lot of pushback, hopefully we have approval around the start of December then we can go out to tender (for construction),” he said.
The company consulted with Barossa Tourism and the South Australian Tourism Commission on the project.
US private equity group Carlyle bought Accolade Wines for $1bn in 2018.
Tanunda Artisans of Barossa last month opened a $3.1m cellar door, restaurant and function centre at its Vine Vale Rd winery.
