An internationally-renowned chef has announced his sudden departure from the top Adelaide restaurants he helped launch as he eyes a major new project.
Adam Liston has stepped away from Shobosho on Leigh St, and ShoSho on King William Rd, to focus on existing and upcoming ventures.
This includes Yakisan, a restaurant and bar in the new $300m Eighty Eight O’Connell development in North Adelaide.
Liston said it had been an “incredible journey” over the last eight years, starting with contemporary Japanese eatery Shobosho, which he opened with leading Adelaide restaurateur Simon Kardachi in March 2017.
He had previously spent more than a decade working in Melbourne as well as travelling and working in Asia.
“This marks not only the end of an era but also the conclusion of a partnership that has seen everything,” Liston said.
“While it’s bittersweet, I look forward to new opportunities and challenges ahead.”
Yakisan, a fire-based rooftop venue in the much-anticipated O’Connell St development, will feature Japanese-inspired dishes and it’s hoped will rival global hotspots like Melbourne’s Nobu.
Partnering with managing director Nate Scutter, Yakisan will be Liston’s “most exciting venture to date”.
“It’s an evolution and a step-up from all of the previous projects I’ve been involved in the past,” said Liston, who’s also head chef at Pirie St’s Sora.
Liston said the new all-day menu will showcase his signature fire cooking over wood and charcoal, mixed with modern Japanese, Korean and Australian cuisine.
