Life’s a party at Pizzateca and everyone’s invited. You’re just as likely to spot a big famiglia celebrating over shared pizzas as you are a busload of hip young things ready to line their stomachs for an afternoon of wine tasting.

Here, the Mitolo family (namely Tony and father Vito) and friends sling Neapolitan-style pizzas all day long.

It’s the kind of long-proof, hand-stretched dough that guarantees a light base and puffed crust that’s blistered in a near-400-degree Stefano Ferrara oven.

The family prides itself on the house sugo (sauce), made with tomatoes grown in Virginia. And the choice of toppings is on-point, from Naples’ famous margherita to the cult “diablo”, featuring chilli and honey.

The real magic is in another house specialty - the arrosticini, a style of small meat skewer traditional to Italy’s Abruzzo region (still in southern Italy, but to the eastern side of the boot). Small pieces of Adelaide Hills lamb are skewered, then cooked over a charcoal grill until it’s just-cooked but still pink inside. Tender, smoky, and served only with salt, olive oil and lemon, it’s an example of how the kitchen lets produce shine.

Mentions must also be made to well-executed, typical Italian sides such as paparuli - wood oven roasted capsicums dressed in garlic and olive oil, and a very good, very boozy tiramisu.

Finish the meal with some housemade limoncello and let the good times roll.
