Each year, around about now, ALDI shoppers are sent into a frenzy over cult buys on offer at the bargain supermarket that would make the perfect addition to Christmas lunch. 

They're the limited edition items that can be randomly found in the freezer aisle - usually around the festive season. 

In previous years, it's been all about the goose-fat potatoes (can confirm... yummm!!!) and lobster tails (fancy and cheap).

But this year, there's a newcomer that has people flocking into the store to nab. And this item, the kids will especially be thrilled about.

Bargain hunters have spotted a packet of potatoes cut out in Christmas shapes for just 2.99. Yes, potatoes in the shape of Christmas trees and stars - what's not to love about that? 

A shopper was thrilled to share her find on the Addicted to Bargains Facebook page.

"Christmas Potato Shapes from ALDI $2.99," she captioned her shot. 

As expected, the post sent over 500 commenters into a festive frenzy.

"I need to try these," one person commented. 

"Why do I feel like I must get these?" another added. 

"We need these in our lives" and "take my money!" soon followed.

Shoppers claim they're a Christmas lunch winner

For those who had already discovered the Holy Grail of a bargain Christmas lunch, they were happy to confirm that they do indeed taste as good as they look. 

"They are super yummy! My kids love them," one happy customer shared. 

"Had some yesterday, they’re not bad," added another. 

And another chimed in: "My daughter calls these 'Christmas nuggets' and demolishes these. Not bad for a kid who absolutely hates potato."
