The age-old New Year’s Eve tradition of kissing a stranger at midnight might be a no-go, but South Australians are still looking forward to counting down to 2021.
In fact, many cannot wait to do their COVID-19 check in at a restaurant or hotel on December 31.
Fireworks across the city are cancelled but some council areas are still setting them off tonight – here’s a list.
Because of restrictions, bookings are essential for most functions and many have already sold out – such as those at new hotel SkyCity Adelaide’s rooftop bar and restaurant, Sol, and 2KW.
But recognising people’s need to officially see the last of 2021 and spend time with family and friends, a number of establishments are hosting NYE events from lunchtime.
They include Sparkke at the Whitmore, which co-founder Rose Kentish said was catering to those seeking “gentle fun – which is something we all need”.
Booked out for lunch, the popular city venue is still taking bookings for its two NYE dinners.
“This year New Year’s Eve is about being with people you love to bits,” Ms Kentish said, adding celebrations at Sparkke would feel “like a big warm hug”.
