Who is taking over from 7 NEWS weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy?

The countdown to 7 News Adelaide weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy’s maternity leave is on. See who could fill her spot.

Already mum to three-year-old Grace, 7 NEWS Adelaide weather presenter Amelia Mulcahy is looking forward to welcoming her second child with husband Matt in October. But just who will be in the hot seat from September while she’s on maternity leave?

GERTIE SPURLING

Could it be that Gertie – who is mother to Penny and Mim – is keeping mum about an upcoming shift in her role with Seven? She’s already a wonderful weekend weather presenter, so it wouldn’t be a huge transition to fill in for Amelia on weekdays.

ANNE WILLS

This would be a bolt out of the blue, but who wouldn’t love to see Willsy back on the small screen. Not only can she boast a record 19 Logie Awards to her name, but this local legend of TV was awarded an Order of Australia Medal for her service to broadcast media in South Australia in the 2018 Queen’s Birthday Honours.

While it has been a while since she did the weather on the telly, she might be about to dust off her famous earrings collection and take Seven by storm.

TIM NOONAN

This fine fellow had a cult following when he was with Seven, starting out in 2011 as a news reporter before switching to presenting the weather.

When Tim and newsreader Jessica Adamson were let go in 2020, viewers signed a petition describing Jess as “one of South Australia’s finest newsreaders” and Tim as an “Adelaide icon”.

Known and loved for his quirky style, Tim’s other claim to fame was being ABC Adelaide radio’s roving reporter for a decade.

HANS

No one is going to rain on Hans’ parade. The alter ego of Matt Gilbertson, who was honoured with icon status at this year’s Adelaide Cabaret Festival, is like a breathe of fresh air. No stranger to TV – after appearing on America’s Got Talent and every morning show under the sun – he would, no doubt, throw caution to the wind to make for some very entertaining weather reports, honeys!

CASEY TRELOAR

In early 2019, Casey made a video that went viral, with an audience of 300,000 in 24 hours. In it she made a teary farewell to a herd of cows during the closure of her family’s Fleurieu Peninsula dairy farm. The good news is she landed her “dream job” not long after, with 7 NEWS in Adelaide. She’s taken on reporting, producing and presenting roles including being weekend weather presenter while Gertie Spurling was on maternity leave for her second bub Mim. Could Casey be about to fill in for Amelia?

BECKY BLAKE

There’s nothing this singer – of party band Chunky Custard and Piano Chick fame – can’t do. Why, only last week she stepped up when Mix 102.3 put a call out at the eleventh hour for a wedding celebrant to officiate for its Married By Monday ceremony in which Dylan and Charlotte tied the knot in the ultimate ‘quickie’ wedding arranged by Ali Clarke in just one week.

Becky has the right sunny disposition and could even sing a few bars of It’s Raining Men, Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head or Kentucky Rain – she has a great vocal range – to sign off her weather segment. The ABC had opera diva Kirsti Harms as a weather presenter back in the day, after all.

EMILY BEATON

Working for Australian Fashion Labels, which has brands like C/MEO Collective and The Fifth under its umbrella, and featuring on The Advertiser’s most stylish people list, Emily certainly looks the part. The former Thunderbird is also part of Fox Netball’s commentary team meaning she has industry cred. A reputable source also tells us Emily is on Seven’s radar for sport and presenting work, meaning that, even if the weather gig isn’t hers, her future’s so bright she better wear shades.

ALANA SMITH

Now based in Sydney with her hubby, former CEO of the Crows Andrew Fagan, and their family, this popular presenter is unlikely be back working in Adelaide anytime soon. That said, she was on cloud nine when she was asked to fill in for Amelia when she was previously on maternity leave a few years ago. While they say lightning never strikes the same place twice, maybe Alana is set for a 7 NEWS comeback.
