Tinder match Dylan Schmidt and Charlotte Simmons married after week-long engagement

In front of friends, family, footballers and two alpacas, Dylan and Charlotte officially tied the knot – eight months after a chance meeting on a dating app and just one week after getting engaged.

With footy players helping hold her dress down the aisle and two alpacas to carry the rings, Kapunda couple Dylan Schmidt and Charlotte Simmons have said ‘I do’ after a whirlwind one-week engagement.

The lovebirds officially tied the knot on Monday morning at Faithwood Chapel in West Lakes, with a lot of help from their new Adelaide radio friends.

It was just eight months after their first date, and only one week after a live-on-radio proposal on the Mix 102.3 Ali Clarke Breakfast Show. And it was full of crazy surprises.

The ceremony kicked off with bagpipers for the walk down the aisle, best man Craig wearing a bright pink suit, and Charlotte helped down the aisle by Adelaide Crows player Reilly O'Brien and Port’s Xavier Duursma.

Adding to the mayhem, wedding organisers enlisted two alpacas to carry the wedding rings.

Wedding celebrant Becky Blake thanked the crowd of “friends, family, footballers and the alpacas” for attending Dylan and Charlotte’s special day.

“Each of you was invited here because you represent someone important in the individual and collective lives of Dylan and Charlotte,” Ms Blake said.

“I truly cannot think of a better venue than Faithwood Chapel for a romantic destination wedding for an occasion that I know has had monumental planning and has all come together this morning,” she joked.

Then, the one question everyone had been waiting for: “Dylan, do you take Charlotte to be your wife?,” Ms Blake asked.

“Yes, I do,” Dylan said.

“Will you love her, honour her, and respect her? Do you promise to put the toilet seat down after every use and hang your towel up after your shower from this day forward,” Ms Blake quipped.

“I do, Dylan said.

In putting the vows to Charlotte, Ms Blake said: “Do you promise to allow him to go on fishing trips and drink milk straight out of the bottle from this day forward?”.

“I do,” Charlotte said.

After “sealing the declaration with a kiss”, Dylan gave an impromptu speech.

“I promise to spend the rest of my life, trying to make you happy and ensuring that we have everything we need and keeping you safe,” he said.

The newlyweds used the power of Tinder to find each other – they had never connected despite a mutual friend and the groom regularly hanging out at his best mate’s house on the same street as the bride’s home.

And to those who may be sceptical about their “shotgun wedding” the couple said they had no doubts about getting married.

They had talked about marriage, but Mr Schmidt, who dropped to one knee in the Ali Clarke Breakfast Show studio, said the proposal came “sooner than he had planned”.

“It’s full on, it’s very short, but I love Charlotte and she loves me,” he said.

“At the end of the day, you can wait as long as you want and that’s great, if that’s how people want to do it.

“I’m set in my answer and she’s set in hers, what’s the point in wasting that time, that we could get together and have those memories and have those moments.”

The couple’s first date was a week long trip to the Eyre Peninsula and after that the relationship was official.

“When I first met him, just the comfort, everything and the way he made me feel, the vibe that I got from him, the way he put a smile on my face, everything it was just perfect,” Ms Simmons said.

“It was just something I was willing to take a chance on, that he could be the one.”

Her future husband agreed.

“We just instantly clicked, matched energy, attitude, sense of humour, everything. It was just so natural, so easy and in the time that we’ve been there together there’s been quiet a few challenges,” Mr Schmidt said.

“She’s just always had my back and I’ve had hers and it’s just never even been a question of, (whether) she’ll be there for me or will she stick up for me.”

Ms Simmons said she was “very emotional and overwhelmed” during the unexpected proposal.

“It was a very unique place to get engaged, I don’t think anyone can really say that they’ve been proposed to in a studio on air on Mix,” she said.

Ahead of big day the bride said she was “very excited” and was most looking forward to the groom’s reaction when she walked down the aisle.

“I love her and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my life with her, and all the things that we’ve discussed in our future, I can’t wait for that to become a reality,” he said.
