TV personality Jessica Rowe has shared the heartbreaking reason her husband, Peter Overton, has disappeared from TV screens.

Australian journalist Jessica Rowe has revealed why her TV presenter husband Peter Overton has been off the screen recently.

Rowe took to Instagram to share a message about Overton (who doesn't have an account).

She revealed her husband will be back on screen eventually, but for now he will remain at home while he recovers from surgery.

“As you know Pete doesn’t do Insta – and he wanted me to share some news with you. He’s off work for a little longer at the moment after an ENT surgeon discovered a polyp on one of his vocal cords which explains his very raspy voice over the holidays,” Rowe said.

“He was operated on and part of his recovery is no talking for now (which is a HUGE challenge for him!!)”

She added: “Hopefully he’ll be back to 9 NEWS soonish. Big thanks to the great doctors, nurses, speech pathologists, and Pete’s wonderful work colleagues.”

Fans rushed to share their concern for the Nine presenter in the comments below the post.

It’s not the first time Overton has disappeared from screens due to a health battle.

In April last year, Rowe, a beloved Aussie TV and media personality herself, shared that Overton had undergone hip surgery and needed some time off.

“Many of you have been missing Pete from your TV screens these past couple of weeks & have asked me where he is,” the presenter began in her post.

“Well he’s at home recovering from hip replacement surgery & getting lots of TLC. Pete will be back @9newssydney soon!”

Overton had another health scare in 2022 when he revealed he had a burst blood vessel in his eye.

The veteran newsreader surprised his audience at the time by reading the news with a bloody eye, but he reassured them he was completely fine.
