Jessica Rowe has revealed the reason her husband Peter Overton has been “missing” from his presenting duties on 9News for the last few weeks.

Rowe, a beloved TV and media personality herself, gave an update into Overton’s absence on Instagram yesterday, telling her followers that he has been at home recovering from surgery.

“Many of you have been missing Petee from your TV screens these past couple of weeks & have asked me where he is!” the 53-year-old began in her post.

“Well he’s at home recovering from hip replacement surgery & getting lots of TLC. Petee will be back @9newssydney soon!”

In her post, the former Studio 10 host shared a photo of her husband, 58, with his feet up on the bed, appearing in good spirits.

Her followers thanked Rowe for the update while also wishing the beloved anchor a speedy recovery.

“Oh! We miss seeing you Pete! Get well soon,” wrote one, while another commented, “Thank you we have missed Pete wondering what had happened to him. Wishing Pete all the very best for a speedy recovery.”

“Legend! The best in the business! Hope you are back reading the news soon. Miss seeing you read the evening news so much,” wrote yet another.

There were also words of encouragement from some who recently underwent surgery like Overton.

“Best of luck with your recovery. I’ve just had a knee replacement lots of fun,” one shared, with another user writing, “OMG Peter I had hip replacement surgery 5 weeks ago. Hang in there buddy it gets better I promise.”

Fellow 9News presenter Tracy Vo also sent “Big love to you Pete!!”

Overton had another health scare back in 2022 when he revealed he had a burst blood vessel in his eye.

The veteran newsreader surprised his audience at the time by reading the news with a bloody eye, but he reassured them he was completely fine.

“You may have noticed my right eye isn’t looking its best tonight,” Overton explained on-air. “All is okay. I have a burst blood vessel and it looks worse than it actually is.”

Overton was suffering from a subconjunctival haemorrhage, which the Mayo Clinic says often occurs without any obvious harm to the eye, and it’s just like having a bruise on your skin. The harmless condition requires no treatment and will go away on its own within weeks.

Rowe has been by her husband’s side in sickness and in health, with the couple – who share two daughters, Allegra 17, and Giselle, 15 – celebrating 20 years of marriage this past January.

“20 years ago today I made the best decision of my life! Happy anniversary my darling Petee,” Rowe gushed on Instagram at the time.
