Talk show queen Oprah Winfrey is exploring the City of Churches – and is taking on the challenge of climbing one of South Australia’s most scenic walks.
On Saturday morning, Winfrey’s entourage arrived at Mount Lofty’s popular Waterfall Gully track with their sights set on going “all the way up”.
As Winfrey stepped out of her car, hikers immediately recognised the global superstar and requested selfies – also offering recommendations as to what else she should see in Adelaide.
But Winfrey is keeping her Adelaide plans close to her chest, ahead of her show at the Entertainment Centre tonight.
“Bunch of things we’re gonna do... we’re gonna go (to) wineries,” she said.
A fan suggested McLaren Vale while another admirer gifted her a few cartoon books from an Australian author.
On Friday, hinted at what she will do while visiting Adelaide and revealed a personal connection to the City of Churches.
Winfrey was greeted at the airport by a flock of fans clamouring for the chance to meet her.
The American media icon responded with enthusiasm, waving and jumping as she acknowledged the crowd, taking time to learn their names and chat briefly with the group.
During the exchange, Winfrey revealed that her stylist, Annabelle, is originally from Adelaide.
The star said Annabelle had encouraged the entourage to enjoy some of South Australia’s scenic hikes, possibly including the Waterfall Gully to Mount Lofty track.

Later, Winfrey posted to her social media, telling viewers she always makes it a mission to explore every city she visits.
She filmed the message while walking across the University Footbridge over the River Torrens with Adelaide health futurist Matt Reimann.
“I went to see Barbara Walters before she passed and I was walking through her hallway and in her hallway were all these pictures of every places she’s been and all these incredible people she’s interviewed over the years,” Winfrey said.
“And I said ‘Wow! What and incredible career, what an incredible life!’
“And she said ‘I never experienced any of it’.
“And I made the decision then that I didn’t want to end up saying I didn’t experience it. So I try to give myself enough time - here Adelaide - to experience it.”
Winfrey will perform at the Adelaide Entertainment Centre on Saturday from 8pm.
