A club owner has hit back at Selling Sunset star Jason Oppenheim’s scathing attack on Sydney’s night-life.

The reality real estate star, who was in Sydney over New Year’s, declared Sydney’s night-life was “not as fun” as Los Angeles.

Owner of seven days a week, late night Darlinghurst bar, Club 77, Dane Gorrel believes Oppenheim couldn’t be more wrong.

Club 77 has been operating as a nightclub for 25 years and Gorrel has come off the back of 18 parties in a row.

In February, the venue will host a one off exclusive gig with The Presets for the Smirnoff Origins series.

Club 77 was one of the first venues the popular electric pop duo, which consists of Julian Hamilton and Kim Moyes, played at. It’s also where Moyes met his wife.

Tickets to the event sent fans into a frenzy and tickets sold out within the hour.

This has led to the venue and organisers releasing a second round of ticket this week.

Hamilton said the demand shows people in Sydney are keen to party.

“People want to get out there and dance, see live music and have a great time. People want to live in a city that is loud and bright and stays up late – and for too long, whether due to the lockout laws, or Covid, Sydneysiders have been denied that,” he said.

“Club 77 is one of the classic venues in Sydney. It is a hallowed space for us. It’s one of the venues where we first performed. We have had so many memorable nights there back in the day and we’re keen to have another one.”

Gorrel added his business partner was flying in from Dubai to attend the event.

“I never thought we’d ever get the chance to host them again, it’s literally a dream come true,” he said.
