Robbie Williams is taking his love affair with Australia to the runway — in his own range of Aussie-designed clothing.

The superstar Brit singer is working on a collaboration with celebrated designer Camilla Franks.

“It’s been 18 months,” Williams told The Daily Telegraph of the fashion partnership which will feature items including jackets, pants and shirts.

“It matches definitely the personality that is on stage. It is also really, really comfortable and you feel really, really glam. It is like wearing a stage outfit but they are like pyjamas. It is a unique niche.”

He continued: “I love Australia, I do.”

Camilla met Williams in Ibiza after becoming close friends with his wife Ayda. She and artist husband JP Jones were in the audience as Williams took to the stage at Melbourne’s Rod Laver Arena last night and caught up with him before the show backstage.

“Robbie has been an amazing mate for many years, he is also the greatest entertainer in the world,” Camilla told The Daily Telegraph.

“He is playful, charismatic and not afraid to break the boundaries when it comes to being real. He is also one of the kindest, sweetest humans and it is rare to have someone so unaffected by their fame. That is why we all adore him. We’ve been toying with the idea of a collaboration for a long time.

“With us both here in Australia at the same time, the magical creative cauldron is bubbling.”

Williams has kept a low profile for the past two weeks since arriving in Australia to shoot Better Man, a feature film based on his rags to riches life story.

Little detail is known about the project other than that it will detail his rise from working-class roots in Stoke-on-Trent, the son of Red Lion pub owners Janet and Peter, to fame and fortune along with his battles with drugs, alcohol and mental health.

Williams, 48, has not been seen other than on stage at Rod Laver in the first of the two shows he was filming for the movie. The iconic venue has been transformed into various stages that Williams worked on while as a member of boy band Take That and as a solo artist.

Last night’s concert featured a re-enactment of Williams’ 1998 performance alongside Tom Jones at the Brit Awards.

Casting too has been a closely guarded secret, although details have slowly leaked.

Williams will play himself, with the help of de-ageing special effects, while his former Take That bandmates will be played by Liam Head as Howard Donald, Jess Hyde as Mark Owen and Chase Vollenweider as Jason Owen. British actor Jake Simmance, of Anatomy of a Scandal fame, will play Gary Barlow.

The film is being directed by Australian writer Michael Gracey.

Williams, who has been in a strict Covid-safe bubble, is expected to fly out of Australia as soon as Monday.

Camilla meanwhile has a strong celebrity following here and abroad. Among the most famous of names to have worn her label are Jennifer Lopez, French Montana, Lizzo and Gwen Stefani.
