An SA-born entertainment legend will return to the timeslot he made his own for two decades – but on a very different medium.

Breakfast TV veteran David Koch is returning to the timeslot he made his own for two decades – but on a very different medium.

The former Sunrise host will join Will Goodings for FIVEaa’s breakfast show on Friday, filling in for the absent David Penberthy.

Port Adelaide chairman Koch said he’s excited to set the early alarm again after finishing up on Seven’s early morning show in June 2023.

“It’s gotten a bit dusty but I’m certainly bringing it out for Friday,” he said.

“I love doing my weekly segment with David & Will so when this opportunity came up I jumped at it,” he said.

“I’m really looking forward to being in the chair for the whole morning and keeping Will in check.”

Goodings described SA-born Koch, who hosted Surnrise for over 20 years, as a “breakfast legend”.

“Countless Australians have woken up to his voice for decades and while it’ll be strange not having the regular ‘David’ across from me, our listeners couldn’t be in better hands with his replacement,” he said.

Koch, a longtime TV presenter and financial journalist, said he isn’t angling for a full-time return to the breakfast timeslot, and Friday would be a one-off appearance.

“Don’t be paranoid, that sort of stuff is way behind me… I’m very much enjoying working business hours and the thing I’m looking forward to is I don’t even have to dress up or shave for Friday morning,” he said.
