Sir Paul McCartney is bringing his award-winning concert to Australia.

The former Beatle and rock legend announced on Tuesday that he will perform a string of dates Down Under later this year as part of his Got Back tour.

It first launched in February 2022 with 16 huge shows across the US before a historic set at Glastonbury in June that year, which saw modern technology allow him to perform a “virtual duet” with the late John Lennon.

McCartney – the man responsible for beloved hits including Hey Jude and Let It Be – will kick off the Australian leg of his tour in October 18 with an intimate arena show in Adelaide, where the Beatles made history in 1964 with around 350,000 fans lining the streets to glimpse the band.

McCartney, 81, will then perform stadium shows in Melbourne, Newcastle, Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast, in his first live performances in Australia in six years.

He last toured here in 2017, delivering an award-winning three-hour show. Before that, it had been nearly three decades since McCartney had performed for Aussie fans.

Last month, McCartney stunned fans by revealing The Beatles would be releasing one last song through the use of artificial intelligence (AI) during a UK radio interview.

He explained that the technology had been used to “extricate” Lennon’s voice from a “ropey” old demo so that they could complete the track.

“We just finished it up and it’ll be released this year,” McCartney told BBC Radio 4.

“We had John’s voice and a piano and he could separate them with AI. They tell the machine, ‘That’s the voice. This is a guitar. Lose the guitar’.

“So when we came to make what will be the last Beatles’ record, it was a demo that John had [and] we were able to take John’s voice and get it pure through this AI.

“Then we can mix the record, as you would normally do. So it gives you some sort of leeway.”

Pre-sale tickets for McCartney’s Got Back tour will be available from Thursday August 3, with general ticket sales to open up on Friday, August 11.
